The document discusses how to have a good conversation. It summarizes research that found people are more polarized and divided today than in history due to a lack of listening to understand others' perspectives. It also notes that technology like constant texting contributes to disconnection between people. What did you learn about having a good conversation?

A conversation requires a balance between talking and listening and I agree with the

statement and I believe that a meaningful conversation is beneficial for individual growth and

can develop healthy relationships.

With regards to society, Pew Research did a study of 10,000 American adults, and they found

that at this moment, people are more polarized, more divided as compare to history. People

do not pay attention and get involved in the conversation and do not connect deeply which

proves that people are less likely to compromise and not listening to each other. The reason

for losing a balance between talking and listening is first, people are so self-inclined that they

make decisions on what they already believed, and moreover, people listen with the intent to

reply rather than being connected. Secondly, technology, according to Pew Research, about a

third of American teenagers send more than a hundred texts a day and most of them, are more

likely to text their friends. I was surprised with both the research conducted and realized how

disconnected people with each other are and even someone wants to pour their heart out they

cannot because people judge according to their understandings.

On the other hand, I will incorporate the ten generic rules to become a better conversationalist

into my day to day life that are don’t multitask, don’t pontificate, use open-ended questions,

go with the flow, be clear with your thoughts, don’t equate personal experience, try not to

repeat yourself, stay out of weeds, Listen and Be brief. “Everyone you will ever meet knows

something that you don’t” the statement has deep meaning and touched my heart and this is

something I will add to my current educational life as well as to my career that will help me

to grow and learn more. In past, I have faced many issues due to my conversation skills

however they helped me to learn a lot and I will listen and grasp conversations with the intent

to understand.
