I. RATIONALE:
The Department of Education, in its desire to deliver the highest quality of education
possible despite the current pandemic situation in the country, came up with various schemes
that would prepare learning leaders and teachers in the new normal. Due to COVID-19, schools
were encouraged to adopt a variety of distance learning approaches from modular to online or
virtual instructions.
Llego (2020) explained that school opening would not necessarily mean traditional face-
to-face learning in the classroom. The physical opening will depend on the risk severity grading
or classification of a certain community pursuant to guidelines from the Department of Health
(DOH), the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious
Diseases in the Philippines and the Office of the President (OP). Thus, the department
employed distance learning in the form of modular and virtual learning deliveries.
The Department of Education employed a learning delivery modality where learning
takes place between the teacher and the learners who are geographically remote from each other
during instruction. This modality has three types: Modular Distance Learning (MDL), Online
Distance Learning (ODL), and TV/Radio-Based Instruction however, this study focused only
on MDL and ODL which term adopted in is Virtual Learning.
In order to prepare teachers in implementing these various modalities, DepEd came up
with a set of modules. These modules were meant to be studied independently by teachers
allowing them to experience one of the learning modalities. However, they were also given the
freedom to conduct LAC session if deemed necessary. In Buhisan ES, the teachers agreed to
have LAC sessions which also gave them the opportunity to experience online learning. These
schemes paved the way for indulging into blended learning approach.

knowledge on the background, rationale and development of MELCs. She gave the participants a
group activity on how to unpack these MELCs and combine related competencies into learning
objectives as one of their expected outputs. Then the participants presented their unpacked learning
objectives based from curriculum guide and a list of MELCs.
There were some other written activities given to the participants to be placed on their study
notebook. The said session was ended at 4:00 in the afternoon.
MODULE 3A – DESIGNING INSTRUCTION IN THE DIFFERENT
LEARNING DELIVERY MODALITIES

she briefly discussed and explained how the different learning modalities, classifying lessons, and
awareness, guiding and also monitoring the pupils in the different modalities are being conducted. But
the lecturer gave focus on the modular distance learning modality since it’s the applicable in the
setting.
For the afternoon session with the help and guidance of our module 3A lecturer Mr. Jamero,
teachers started doing their outputs under the module 3A such as listing of targeted learner
interventions, learning tasks for DL, and other activities / outputs to be placed in their study notebook
and portfolio later on.
DAY 3 | September 22, 2020, the third day of Learning Action Cell of Learning Delivery
Modalities (LDM2) for the teachers. It started at exactly 8 o’clock in the morning and ended at 5:00 in
the afternoon.
Mrs. Ginabeth S. Betonio, the lecturer who was made and continued the discussion on designing
lessons and assessments in the different LDMs. After sharing and giving information about the lesson

learners to be guided with the daily tasks they have to do and be able to track or monitor their learning
progress in line with the implementation of LDMs.
For the afternoon session, the participants crafted their own WHLP and ILMP using the
template. They shared, presented and evaluated their outputs among one another as headed by the
facilitator herself.
