1 General

Where the eyes or body of any person may be exposed to injurious corrosive
materials, safety showers including eyewash for quick drenching or flushing of the
eyes and body shall be provided within the work area for immediate emergency use.

2 Location of the safety showers

The safety showers shall be installed on easily accessible places. It is necessary to


mark the emergency shower in arrangement drawing and emergency map.
The safety shower places must be marked with safety signs. The distance to a
shower from potential accident place should be within a run time of 10 seconds.

The access to the safety showers must be kept free all the time.

3 The arrangement of the safety showers

The material of the showers must be resistant to the environmental corrosion attack.
Only certified safety showers complying the requirements of standards EN 15154
Part 3 and 4 can be installed.

The documentation must be made.

The water should be of potable quality. The temperature of the water should be
maintained between 15oC and 37oC.

Adequate water pressure as well as flow of potable water for showers must be
provided to secure continuous flow to the shower until intended shutting of the
showers.

The showers must provide an effective and tender washing. It is recommended to


insert the mechanical filter of 100 µm before the eyes shower to decrease the risk of
eye injury by the mechanical contamination in the piping.

The safety showers outdoors must be electrically traced to avoid freezing. Also the
feed piping shall be electrically traced.

4 Operating of the safety shower

The safety showers must be activated by one action. Besides hand operating (rod,
hand lever of the valve) the showers must be equipped also with operating by leg -
treading mechanism.

5 The maintenance of the safety showers

For secure operation of the safety showers it is necessary to activate the safety
showers once per three months and drain the shower piping.

6 The mobile safety showers

It is recommend to use mobile safety showers for temporary work such as


maintenance, repair etc, in places where is risk of human injury by dangerous media.
