Personal Development Module 2: Understanding the Connections Between Thoughts, Feelings and Behavior

What’s In “Thoughts, Feelings, and Action”

What happened?
I've been afraid, worried, and nervous since the start of the school year because I'm a new student at a new school and am
still adjusting to the new environment. My best friend was no longer my classmate. I made new friends lately with my new
classmates, and they're nice and kind, but still miss my old ones. I've had an online learning experience like this before, and
because I am not new to this, but this time it is harder than I think. I'm becoming more tired of studying every day, but it’s
okay with me since I want to study very hard to achieve my dreams and goals in life.

My Thoughts
I always tried to see the positive side of my trail,
hoping that one day all of my hard works will be
rewarded. This is only the beginning of my life, and
I've always believed that this school will prepare
me to be a better college student. Even though
that my best friends and I went separate paths, I
still believe that they are still supporting me and
cheering me up. I also like the idea that we grew
up, that we didn't force ourselves to take this path
and that we picked what we wanted.

To earn a better grade, I always try my Shyness, Confusion, nervous, frustration, fear,
hardest to complete my responsibilities to and anxiety are the emotions I'm experiencing
the best of my ability. For me, turn into the right now as a result of this situation. My biggest
best version of oneself is a dream. That’s concern is that I will be the only one who will be
why, even if the tasks our teachers give us left. I'm just hoping that with the help of my
new friends, I'll be able to get through this
sometimes are difficult, I always do my best
school year successfully. I'm looking forward to
so I will not regret that I didn’t give my all.
making friends with them all, and I'm eager to
help them for as long as I can.

Naming

We all name our experience “crisis”, “bad as usual”, “a great challenge” are names you might give to
things that happen. Pick a recent upsetting experience. Describe it in a few words. I cried in front of my
mom because I badly needed a laptop for this upcoming schoolyear. She said I can borrow my aunt’s
laptop sometimes and I am upset because I want a new one for myself. On the other day I felt guilty
and went to my mom’s room to apologized and I said that it’s ok if I just borrow laptop to My aunt
since she doesn’t use it often.

Is there a positive name you could give it? (learning experiences, chance to change, etc.)

I say sorry to her for being upset in such a small thing and that borrowing stuff to my aunt is not bad
at all since sharing is caring.

List the names you gave to five recent experiences, good or bad.

1. I met new friends that makes my fresh start at this school year joyful.
2. I yelled at my younger sister because she is loud.
3. I sing a song for my best friend and he likes it.
4. I always eat so much because my grandmother nags about how thin I am.
5. I always cry at night because of stress in my homeworks.

If they happened to someone else, what other positive names could you give them?

We only live once so every moment we are in, we have it to enjoy as much as possible. Dream big and
always believe in yourself no matter what problems you encounter.

Letting Go

You often must let go of dreams, people or parts of your life. Letting go allows you to get on with your
life when something is over. Write down two things you need to let go of.

I will let go of my sad past and the people who don’t believe in me.

Imagine that each one is really going out of your life. How do you feel? (sad, angry, relieved, etc.)

I am going to be sad because everyone who comes to my life, they give me experiences even if it’s
good or bad. Even though they do bad things about me, I will still be sad because they are still part of
my life.

Who can you tell about your feelings?

My best friends and my cousins who I cherishes the most and I trust.

What advice would you give to someone who is in your situation?

Not everybody stays in the end so be prepared if they leave you and cutting ties with the people who
are just hurting is a must so you can heal, progress and improve.

Belief and Faith

Self-talk reflects our belief in who we are or in the universe. A positive faith can help during stressful
times. Name 10 positive things you believe in about yourself, others, or the universe. If you can’t think
of 10 beliefs, you can ask other people for theirs.
1. I recognized the value of time.
2. I always go with the flow in life.
3. I treat others the way I want to be treated.
4. I accept my current life situation.
5. I am always be grateful for what I have.
6. I am realistic person.
7. I understand others point of view.
8. I always forgive others.
9. I try to see the positive in everything I see.
10. I forgive my self for any mistakes I did in the past and take a step forward for a new
beginning.

Describe a recent experience and how you used one of these beliefs to help you.

I was unsure of my ability. I’m scared and shy in my new school because I am a transferee student
who is afraid to met new people. To overcome my fear, I talk to my new classmates who approaches
me and focused on the positive side that if I work harder, this school year will be great because I am
with my friends and we can survive the whole school year if we pursue each other.
