UNIT 1: Understanding the Music of the 20 th Century

This unit is about the music of the 20 th century which demonstrates deeper understanding about the invention of
the gramophone records. The mass market of thus invention made musical compositions available to many. Prior to this
period, during the 19 th century, only the elite or the rich could l isten to live classical music concerts in theatres.

These activities are designed to understand the 20 th century music styles and characteristics features and create

Bread and pastry production is one of the popular areas of the study that many students
prefer to specialize on. One reason is that, this area offers exciting and challenging
opportunities which develop your creativity and your artistic inclination in coming up
with the wide variation of an artistic and delicious looking baked product. This unit is a
continuation of your learning experiences in your study about bread and pastries in
Grade 9. It covers the acquisition of core competencies in preparing, decorating and
storing cakes and the cake products like gateaux, tortes, and petit fours, preparing
fillings which includes nuts, creams, custards, and accompanying cake decorating items
like marzipans, fondants, icing, frosting, edible glitters, candies chocolates, and fresh
fruits, and presenting serving and string desserts like fruits, pantries, cake, breads,
meringues and varieties of doughnuts, crepes and pancakes.
