Marxist Criticism
The painting “Hapag ng pag-asa” was created by Joey Velasco. It depicts the face of
poverty and hope at the same time. It is one of Velasco's captivating artworks and a
modernized painting of "Last Supper" by Leonardo da Vinci. In this project, twelve street
children were featured. It was created in the year 2005.

Poverty brings forth unfortunate circumstances this includes hunger. Street children are
incapable of providing for themselves. Despite the difficulties, hope is still at reach
which is symbolized by Jesus Christ. The artwork creates hope, shows the reality of life
and compassion for the poor. On the other hand, it shows that we still live in a society
where children experience hardship.

In conclusion, despite the difficulties instilled by poverty, there is hope in trusting God.
The reality of life depicted in the painting informs people that hunger among poor
children is indeed real. Although the message of the work is to give hope, some people
might not relate to it. In the end, it will question your privilege and point of view of the
situation as a fortunate citizen.
