GOODand BAD

PRACTICING THE GOLDEN RULE

remember to “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” always remember that behind
every account is a real person, SO RESPECT AND KINDNESS Should ALWAYS BE PRACTICED.

INAPPROPRIATE JOKES
Making jokes that could offend others or placing a joke on an existing thread that has upsetting or
distressing content would be considered inappropriate.

PROOFREADING
Before you post a comment, double check that you are saying exactly what you want to say. One small
error can completely change the meaning of your message, so read and read again before sending

USING ALL CAPS

In online communication, ALL CAPS is considered yelling. It is rude and can be considered offensive. If
you need to emphasize something, use italics or bold typeface instead of all caps.

RESPECTING PEOPLE’S PRIVACY

Don’t pass on another person’s private information or photos unless you have their permission. If you
know information about someone, do not share it online without asking them first.

STARTING FLAME WARS

Swearing, starting flame wars, or posting comments that you know will cause controversy, is just BAD netiquette.
It is pointless and negative. Avoid being drawn into fights and never post abusive content on social media

SHARING EXPERT KNOWLEDGE

the ability to share and retrieve expert knowledge quickly IS the true benefits of expanded online communication. If
you’re an expert and have research or news to share, this is one of the best uses of the internet.

SPAMMING
It is normal to want to be noticed in the crowd of people on social media – but spamming (another word for
sending the same or similar messages lots of times) can be annoying and may have the opposite effect!

BEING YOURSELF
If you want to get the most out of communicating online, be yourself. Making up false profiles and alter
egos will only discourage people from talking openly with you and taking you seriously.

CATFISHING
It is considered bad netiquette to pretend to be someone else by using photos of another person or lying
about your identity to others.
