CH 08 - Deflection in Statically Indeterminate Structures - 2

This document outlines problems related to deflection in statically indeterminate structures that will be covered during a course on structural analysis. It includes an outline of analysis methods that will be discussed like double integration, area-moment, conjugate beam, slope-deflection, and matrix analysis. It then presents 7 sample problems involving determinate and indeterminate beams to calculate reactions, deflections, and maximum deflection locations using given elastic properties and loading conditions. The problems involve applying various analytical methods like double integration, conjugate beam, area-moment, and integrating loading functions.

Problem 1 (Determinate; Double Integration):
A simply supported beam of length 7m has a concentrated couple Mo of 10KN-m applied
at one end. Determine:

a. the location of the maximum deflection from the applied load.

b. the value of the maximum deflection using E = 200,000 N/mm^2 and I = 60x10^6
mm^4.
Problem 2 (Determinate; Double Integration):
A beam 3m long is simply supported at its ends. The beam is loaded with downward
vertical load of 300N at a point 2m from the left support.

a. the location of the maximum deflection from the left support.

b. the value of the deflection assuming E = 50 GPa and I = 1x10^6 mm^4.
c. the rotation of the beam at the right support in radians.
Problem 3 (Determinate; Double Integration):
An 8-m span simple beam carries a uniform load of 2KN/m and a concentrated load of
4KN 2m from the left support. Calculate the deflection at the mid span. Use E = 100x10^3
MPa and I = 80x10^6 mm^4.
Problem 4 (Determinate; Conjugate Beam):
A horizontal prismatic beam with a span of 3 meters is fixed at the left end and free at the
right end (cantilever). The beam is subjected to a downward vertical concentrated load of
10KN acting at a point 2 meters to the right of the fixed end and a clockwise concentrated
moment equal to 15KN-m acting at the free end. The beam material has a modulus of
elasticity of 200GPa and its cross-section has a moment of inertia equal to 100x10^6
mm^4. Determine:

a. the deflection at the free end considering the concentrated load acting alone.
b. the deflection at the free end considering the moment acting alone.
c. the maximum deflection at the free end.
Problem 5 (Indeterminate; Double Integration):
A 5m fixed-ended beam carries a uniformly distributed load of 6KN/m and a concentrated
load of 15KN located 2m from the left support. The EI is assumed to be constant for the
entire span. Determine:

a. the moment reaction at the right support.

b. the value of deflection at the mid span.
Problem 6 (Indeterminate; Area-Moment):
A propped beam is subjected to a uniform load of 10KN/m and a concentrated load of
40KN at the mid span. Determine the reaction at the pin support if the span is 10m.
Problem 7 (Indeterminate; Area-Moment & Double Integration):
A propped beam 6m long carries a load that varies uniformly from 10KN/m at the fixed
end to zero at the simple support. Determine:

a. the vertical reaction at the simple support.

b. the moment reaction at the fixed end.
c. the location of the maximum deflection measured from the simple support.
