Torches and Beacons are similar yet unique,

like the names of our two new schools. The
light from both serve as guidance and a point
of focus in uncharted and foggy or dark
circumstances. We want everything about
high school to be a guidance for children as
they move from adolescence to adulthood.
There is also the feeling with both of building
off of previous generations to pass on and
continue with the knowledge and memories
that made them great, positioning future
generations with a steadfast foundation of

lions, pronghorns, jaguars, jackrabbits, bats,
black bears, foxes (Swift, gray, or red),

I think two things everyone in Wichita Falls

shares is the weather and the Air Force base.
No single event in Wichita Falls is more
notable than terrible Tuesday. The colors
silver and black resemble the sky during a
storm and offer classic uniform looks.

Great example of the silver and black uniforms

are the nfl raiders franchise.

The bombers or jets pays homage to

Shepherd Air Force base and the b-29 Flying
Fortress training that took place during world
war 2 at Shepherd. Shepherd was originally
named call field during World War One but
was closed at the end of the war. Red, white,
and blue are great colors that represent our
community’s commitment to the armed
forces and appreciation for veterans.

The big reason these schools took so long to

pass is because people have held onto the
legacy of Old High specifically as well as Rider
and Hirschi. I fought it for a time, but I said yes
this time. I know we need new schools. Pay
direct homage to those schools with colors
and the mascot and I think the love from the
community will flow. Also Diann Taylor was
one of the greatest educators I ever met. She
single handedly got me through junior high at
Kirby at a time when I was troubled kid who
caused nothing but problems at school.

I’ve always been proud to be from this town
and of graduating from MY RIDER HS. The
one my daddy coached at. The one both my
parents graduated from. The one I filled my
dreams since I was 2 of being a Rider
Cheerleader. The one where my brother
broke and set so many records in baseball.
The Friday nights we all went to eat at before
every game. The SCHOOL that my 98 yo
grandmother had been at every Friday night
until her late 80’s only Bc it hurt too much to
go. That is why Rider is NOT just a name. I I
am hating this city of people who all they want
is shiny new things. My niece just graduated
and said her education was wonderful. It’s not
what’s outside that makes a school. It’s the
kids INSIDE!! This whole thing is about
growing this town and selling properties. The
fact that so few people actually BUY what
you’re selling just shows this town doesn’t
care about traditions, history and SO many
other things. I’m now ashamed to be from
here. Oh and contrary to a few people’s
claims, I have a lot of friends in the metroplex
and even in Deep South Texas who we

I think Golden Knights works well because it

this would combine the colors of Old High and

 Having a stock color like navy (that no current
or past WFISD high school or junior high has
had) makes it easier to find uniforms and
produce spirit shirts for a cheaper cost.

Both animal mascots have unique hand

gestures that can be used by the student body
and easy to come up with sayings. "Hook 'Em
Horns" & "Roll Thunder" with thunder
representing the sound a herd of Bison would
make as they stampede across the plains
(similar to the Crimson Tide being represented
with an elephant).

Using mascots from a similar genre (i.e.

animals) creates opportunity for a unique
rivalry. Could call it The WF Stampede, Battle
of the Herds, Battle on the Plains....some
catchy phrase. Have a unique trophy like a
large bell from one of the current high schools
and call it "Battle of the Bell" and the winning
school keeps the bell as a Victory Bell for the
year.
