Why we are here

• Adopting a Passenger Restroom Policy and superseding Motion


No. M98-67.

Summary of Board Motion No. M2019-31
Staff had been asked to:
• Review and propose updates to Motion No. M98-67
• Present low and no-cost opportunities for customer access to
restrooms at future light rail stations
• Evaluate and recommend opportunities including wayfinding,
requiring leased retail spaces to provide access, and on-site
restrooms
• Provide suggestions for Board actions to expand restroom
access
• Consider budget and proposed implementation plan

Passenger Restroom Criteria:

• Minimum 10k boardings per day


• Multi-modal locations with 5 routes or more
• Approximately 20 min ride time between restroom access

Staff Recommendations:
• Provide passenger only restrooms strategically throughout the
system in fare paid zones.
• Implement the standard restroom design and operational
considerations to enhance safety and maintainability and
passenger access.
• Use a mix of security and customer service presence to control
and monitor the passenger restrooms.
