I. Executive Summary
The YouthSMA Center will be located near the Antipolo Cathedral, a new recreational
center open for the youth and youth-at-heart. Located just a few blocks away from the church, at
the center of the city’s metropolitan area, this facility offers an experience that will open the
hearts and minds of individuals into new areas of expertise and mold them into virtuosos or
skilled athletes, depending on the field that they’d choose. The center provides an environment
that fosters an individual’s strengths and help them overcome weaknesses, while continually
placing emphasis on fun and innovative ideas. Not only that, but the customers also get the
chance to help the marginalized youth fulfill their dreams for 10% of the business’ earnings will
go directly to the Cartwheel Foundation, a non-profit organization that aids communities of
marginalized indigenous youth into getting the chance to enjoy education and recreational
activities. The facility includes a shop where arts, sports, and musical goods can be bought, and a
music studio and an art studio, complete with all the equipment an individual needs in order to
hone his/her inner virtuoso. Currently, the sports programs will be held outside the center,
specifically at the Fatima Village Covered Court for basketball and at The Badminton House for
badminton. In addition to that, YouthSMA also provide lessons-at-your-doorstep services
wherein we will be the ones who’ll come to you to teach you the fundamentals and advanced
lessons in basketball or guitar, depending on what you’d prefer (we only provide lessons-at-your-
doorstep courses within the Antipolo area at the moment).
Currently, there are over 200,000 youth in Antipolo City between the ages 4-18. According
to the studies made by the city’s Youth and Sports Coordinating Office, only 30% of those
children participate in sports and other recreational activities, making the other 70% prone to
“negative recreation” (drugs, violence, or sexual activities). Our aim is to increase the number of
youth and youth-at-heart who participate in recreational activities and promote their health and
well-being through fun and conventional ways.
II. Business Details
2.1 The Company
YouthSMA (Sports, Music, and Arts) is a youth sports, music, and arts development
center serving the youth, ages six to eighteen, in the Antipolo area. The focus of the business is
to promote youth participation in sports, music, and arts, develop their skills and talents in the
said fields, and increase the rate of adept people (in the fields of sports, music, and arts) within
the community where the YouthSMA is established.
YouthSMA will rent a building near the Antipolo Cathedral. Our sports programs
(Basketball and Badminton) will be held in the respective areas: Fatima Village Covered Court
for basketball and The Badminton House for badminton. Music courses (Guitar and Piano) will
be held at either our office’s music studio or the customers’ place of choice (for guitar lessons
only) while art courses (Drawing and Painting) will be conducted at our office’s art studio. The
business will also offer sporting goods, musical equipment, and art supplies that will be available
at our store.
2.2 Mission, Vision, and Objectives
Mission
Our mission is to work in partnership with the community to strive for excellence in
meeting the needs of our customers’ body, mind and spirit, and the needs of the indigenous youth
through the provision of recreational and sports programs. The YouthSMA will provide a safe
and supportive environment for our customers whilst promoting good morality and camaraderie
among them.
Vision
Our vision is to provide exclusive, innovative and sustainable programs and services to
our customers and improve their physical, mental and emotional health and well-being.
Objectives
To provide enjoyment for our customers

2.4 The Market
There are over 677,741 people living in Antipolo City (as of May 1, 2010), and among
those 600,000, over 200,000 are youth according to the census conducted by the Philippine
Statistics Authority last May, 2010. Currently, only 30% of those 200,000 children participate
in organized sports, music, and arts activities. More importantly, only 5% of girls in that census
are involved in sports (according to the city’s Youth and Sports Coordinating Office). The
current rates provide YouthSMA with an excellent opportunity to impact our target group,
which is the youth. This will have a tremendous impact on the success of the program over the
next five years.
2.5 The Place
The business will be established in a commercial building near the Antipolo City
Cathedral. Based on our personal experiences with regards to the area, a great number of high
school students frequently pass the plaza in front of the church every after class hours. Another
important factor to note is that there are parents who frequently visit the church with their
children during the weekends. Lastly, the proposed area is where many people of various age
differences frequently pass to. With those points taken into consideration, we have decided that
that area is the most suitable area to put up the business.
2.6 The Brand
“Fuel your future as you help fuel theirs”
10% of the business’ total income goes directly to the Cartwheel Foundation, a non-profit
organization that focuses its efforts towards giving the marginalized and disadvantaged
communities of indigenous people the chance to enjoy their right to an education and recreation.
III. Sales and Marketing Strategies
3.1 The Target Market
- Our market demographic is targeted to the youth, specifically, kindergarten-college
students who study in private schools and are in the 4-18 age group in the Antipolo
Metro area.
3.2 Competitive Advantage/Product Differentiation
YouthSMA’s competitive edge is threefold. One is our distribution channel
wherein customers get to choose whether it will be us who will directly come to
them to provide our services, or them who will come to us (to our office) for our
services. The business’ second advantage is that we are the only hobby center-
type of business in Antipolo who offers courses not only in music, but also in
sports and arts. Lastly, by simply joining our programs, customers get to help the
marginalized youth in fulfilling their dreams. 10% of the business’ earnings will
go directly to the Cartwheel Foundation.

VII. Findings and Recommendations
YouthSMA
Advantages
Recreational programs are of high popularity among youth
The business generates a substantial amount of income every month
Break-even point will be reached only after two years
High ROI after 5 years
ROI can reach up to 300% of your initial investment after a few years
The whole community benefits from the business’ existence. The customers get to
learn and develop new skills, the marginalized people are given the opportunity to
build their dreams, and investors reap huge amounts of money.
Disadvantages
Initial investment is costly but it is a good venture since it will take only one year
to recover it.
Store goods (musical instruments, sporting goods, art supplies, etc.)
don’t sell quickly but is greatly overthrown by the high income earned from the
sports and recreational classes the business offers.
The first few months after putting up the business will not be that profitable
although after a year of proper handling, the business’ income will surely soar
high.
Promoting the business will not be that easy at first, though it is possible that the
business will be well-known after a months-worth of promotion.
All in all, the business is a highly feasible investment as the percentage of the youth
who engage in recreational activities will significantly increase resulting to lower
rates of alcohol and drug abuse among minors, and the health and well-being of
individuals in the community will improve. Plus, the marginalized youth will be
given the chance to reach their dreams through the business’ donations to the
Cartwheel Foundation. Lastly, investors will yield a large amount of money within
one or two years’ time.
