July 26, 2021

I am not sure exactly why but Mummies are my favorite Halloween characters. Maybe it’s a sentiment
after watching the movie “Mummy” in my childhood. I still remember that impression it made on me when
I watched it for the first time. So this year I decided to make a Mummy as a Halloween pattern.

Before I move into the pattern, here’s my favorite (lame!!) mummies joke: What kind of music do
mummies listen to?….. Wrap!

OK, I told you it was lame 🙂

In this post I will first go over supplies and additional info, and then I will lay out the pattern itself. As
always, if you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave them in the comments section
below or shoot me a note at [email protected].

Supplies needed to complete this Halloween Pattern

Yarn

For this project I used following yarn:

Yarn Substitutes

1/13
If you cannot (or do not want to) use Catona or Camilla, then you can try to find a replacement. Based on
my experience I would recommend using Schachenmayr Catania, Patons Grace or Alize Bahar.

If you need a hand with choosing alternatives, then you may find my blog post on yarn weights useful.

Crochet Mummy Accessories

You will need following accessories:

Crochet hook: 3mm (US D-3)

Scissors,
Stitch markers,
Toy stuffing, (Note: if you wish to explore some more options, including eco alternatives, then have
a look at my Stuffing for Toys blog post),
Tapestry needle,
Sewing needle
15 mm safety eyes

Want to spice up your toy? Add remarkable amigurumi accessories to make your plushie stand out!

Crochet Mummy Pattern

Mummy’s legs, belly, torso and head are made as one piece. Arms are separate and sewn in. Make all
body parts using brown yarn and stuff as you go. The last step is making the bandage stripes and
wrapping the mummy in them.

Legs

Make 2. For the first one – fasten off and secure yarn. In case of the second leg – do not cut yarn as we’ll
continue to making the rest of the body.

6 sc in mr
Row 1: 6 inc (12)
Row 2: 1 sc, 3 inc, 2 sc, inc, 2 sc, inc, 2 sc (17)
Row 3: inc, 2 sc, 2 inc, * 2 sc, inc * repeat 4 times (24)

Row 11: * decr, 1 sc * repeat 4 times, decr, 9 sc (18)
Rows 12 through 26: 18 sc (18)

Once you’ve done the second leg, make 4 more single crochet stitches and then chain 4. Now we will
connect to the top row of the first leg and continue to making the body. Place legs next to each other in
such a way that the feet face same direction. The very first stitch that you will make into the top row of the
first leg will be counted as a first stitch of row 27.

Body
Continue from previous step.

Crochet Mummy’s Arms
Make 2. Until a certain point (marked below), both arms share the pattern. Then it diverges.

6 sc in mr
Row 1: 1 sc, 2 inc, 1 sc, 2 inc (10)

Row 9: 14 sc (14)
Row 10: 4 sc, 3 decr, 1 sc, inc, 1 sc, inc (13)
Row 11: inc, 8 sc, inc, 3 sc (15)
Rows 12 through 22: 15 sc (15)

Here the pattern for the left and right arms diverge.

Left Arm

make another 12 sc and then ch1 and turn. Since now we’ll turn at the end of each row (we no
longer work around)

Crochet Mummy’s Bandages
We create white and beige stripes and then wrap around the mummy’s body and limbs, alternately white
and beige to produce more of a 3D effect. I made few kinds of stripes as laid out below but feel free to
adjust the number and length if you find it easier to work with. At the end of each stripe leave long tail for
sewing.

Start wrapping the mummy from the bottom of legs. Then apply stripes onto the arms starting from the
shoulders and working towards the palms. Here leave the thinner parts hanging free. Then wrap the
‘bandages’ around the belly, torso and head, leaving out eye areas. Wrap stripes pretty tight but don’t
squeeze too much. They should stay in place pretty firmly but to make sure they don’t move sew them
into the body here and there (i.e., not along the full length).

Bandages for legs

For each leg make 1 in white and 1 in beige.

chain 151

Row 1: beginning from the second chain from the hook 150 sc (150), ch1, turn
Row 2: 150 sc (150)
