How to write a Cambridge C1 Report

(220 to 260 words)

First thing’s first report should be concise and easy to understand. Never include
unnecessary information. You must include a title, headings and also make sure that you
answer the points in the question. A good structure to follow could be:

 Title
 Introduction
 Headings (the three points in the question)
 Content
 Recommendations
 Conclusion

Action plan
1. Usually reports will be formal or semi-formal.
2. To help the reader decide about the information you are giving them you should
make recommendations and give your own personal opinion.
3. Think about what you can say about the listed points. Remember, you can always
use your own ideas, but you don’t have to. They are judging you on HOW you write,
not WHAT you write.
4. You can use bullet points for those headings if you’d like.
5. If you write less than 220 words, you haven’t developed the topic enough. Work
through some of the ideas of the bullet points.
6. If you want to make a correction, do so as neatly as possible.
7. You want to be clear but you also still need to show that you have a good control of
the language, so you should try and incorporate conditionals (If I were you…) or
passives (Trains are used everywhere…therefore they…)
8. You should aim to spend around 45 minutes on your answer, including time for
planning and checking.
