Complex Numbers Worksheet

1. The values of n such that (1 + √-1)n is a real number are 0 and 3k, where k is any integer. 2. The roots of the equation z4 = 1 - i are the fourth roots of unity: 1, -1, i, -i. These were drawn on an Argand diagram. 3. The expansion of (cosθ + i sinθ)3 is cos3θ + i(3cosθsin2θ - sin3θ). This was used to show that cos30 = 4cos3θ - 3cosθ and cos50 = 16cos5θ - 20cos4θ + 5cosθ.
