Basicsof Electricaland Electronics Engineeringwith Lab Manual
I have great pleasure in bringing out this text book entitled “Basics of Electrical and
Electronics Components (BEEC) with Lab Manual” for first semester diploma in Electronics &
Communication Engineering. This book is designed for comprehensively covering all topics
relevant to the subject. Each and every topic has been explained in a very simple language as
per the new syllabus prescribed by the Board of Technical Education, Karnataka. This book is
divided into six units. The details of the contents are summarized as follows
Unit 1 is concerned with basics of electric circuits as current, voltage, resistance,
power, Ohm’s law, Kirchhoff’s law, series parallel combination of resistors and simple
problems
Unit 2 is concerned with basics of electrostatics as Charge, Electric field, Electric Flux,
Flux Density, Field Strength, Coulomb's law, Capacitor charging and discharging, Capacitance,
Dielectric Strength, permittivity, Series parallel combination of capacitors and simple
problems.
Unit 3 is concerned with basics of Electromagnetic induction as Magnetic field, Flux,
Flux density, MMF, Reluctance, permeability, Faraday’s and Lenz’s Laws, Inductance, Self
inductance, Mutual inductance, Series parallel combination of inductors and simple problems.
Unit 4 is concerned with AC Circuits as Alternating current, its basic parameters, pure R,
L and C, R-L, R-C and R-L-C series circuit, Power and power factor, Comparison between single
phase and three phase, Comparison between DC and AC and simple problems.
Unit 5 is concerned with Transformer construction, working, Turn ratio, current and
voltage ratios, ratings of transformers; Types of transformers and their applications,.
Unit 6 is concerned with passive electronic components such as resistors, capacitors ,
inductors, its types and applications
I have tried my best to make the subject as clear as possible by giving review questions
for easy glancing and examination preparation. It is hoped that this book will be an immense
use to teachers and students of polytechnics.
In writing this text book, I have consulted many books, references and the literature in
order to make the book more useful to the students. I am indebted to these authors and
publishers.
I take this opportunity to thank Mr. Ishwar Revanki, Mr. Ishwar Bevinamarad, Mr. Vijay,
Mr. Praveen and the entire team of EBPB publications who have taken immense pain to get
the quality printing in time.
I am very much thankful to Mr. Mustaq Kunnur, Lecturer, GPT, Mundgod (U.K) for his
support in framing the lab experiments.
Finally, I thank all my colleagues, relatives and friends for their co-operation and kind
support.
Any suggestions and comments from teachers and students for improvement in the
future editions of this book will be appreciated.
