Eee2001 NT Module 7 l1

The document discusses two-port networks and their z-parameters (impedance parameters). A two-port network has two ports for input and output. The z-parameters relate the voltages and currents at the two ports, where z11 is the input impedance, z12 is the transfer impedance from port 1 to port 2, z21 is the transfer impedance from port 2 to port 1, and z22 is the output impedance. Circuits are used to measure the individual z-parameters by applying a voltage or current to one port and measuring the response at the other port.

TWO-PORT NETWORKS
A pair of terminals through which a current may enter or leave a network is known as a port.
A two-port network is an electrical network with two separate ports for input and output.

If a circuit (network) is connected to a pair of ports, as shown in Figure,

it is called a two-port circuit (two-port network).

Two of the four variables are independent.

The other two variables are dependent.

A two-port model is a description of a network that relates

voltages and currents at two pairs of terminals.

The network contains NO independent sources

If I1 and I2 are independent variables, then V1 and V2 are

dependent variables. V1 V2
The dependent variables are written as linear z11 = z21 =
I1 I I1
combinations of independent variables as 2 =0 I 2 =0

V1 = z11I1 + z12 I 2 V1 V2

V2 = z21I1 + z22 I 2 I2 I1 =0
I2 I1 =0

In matrix notation,
z terms are called the impedance parameters
