Directions: Solve the following problems. Compute the length of the confidence interval. Show your
solutions on a separate sheet and insert here.
1. A researcher randomly selects 300 parents in a certain town and found out that 250 of them
agreed that the current education system ensures better employment locally and globally for their
children after graduation. Compute the length of the 90% confidence interval for the population
proportion.
2. A total of 75% of the 100 senior high school students who were interviewed agreed that they will
not cheat in order to obtain a good grade. Find the length of the 95% confidence interval that
estimates the proportion of senior high school students who will not cheat in order to get a good
grade.
3. Of the 200 senior high school students interviewed by a guidance counselor, 84% agreed that
parental involvement contributes to a higher academic performance. What is the length of the
confidence interval that estimates the population proportion of senior high school students who
agreed that parent’s involvement affects academic performance using a 90% level of confidence?
4. Find the length of the 95% confidence interval for the mean of the normal population with
standard deviation of 2 when the sample size is 30.
5. A sample of 15 volleyball players have surveyed in order to estimate the average weight of all
volleyball players. The sample produced a variance of 2 pounds. Using this data, compute the of
the 90% confidence interval that estimates the variance of all volleyball players.

Directions: Solve the following problems. Use the space provided after each item.
1. The results of a survey showed that 20% of the teachers teaching in the NCR are currently
pursuing post-graduate degrees. A researcher from region I wants to conduct the same survey in
the region using a 95% confidence interval to have a margin of error of 0.04. Find the necessary
sample size if the researcher desires to get results similar to the study conducted in the NCR.
2. The campus journalism office wants to know the percentage of the student population in a certain
university who would vote for the most popular candidate for the position of University Student
Council president. The results of the survey will be published in the next issue of the campus
paper. The office wants a 95% confidence level with a margin of error of no more than 3.5%. In
the survey conducted last month, the same candidate got 42% support. How many students do
the campus journalists need to survey?
3. Find the necessary sample size for 99% confident level and the error of estimate is 3 with the
standard deviation of 6.
