Activity 1

The document provides examples of functions including a car's gas mileage as miles per gallon and the fee for exploring a cave as $700 per person. It gives examples of representing functions through tables of values, ordered pairs, graphs, and equations. It also evaluates functions by plugging in values, taking square roots, and simplifying expressions.

1. Provide a real-world example or scenario that

can be expressed as a function.
 A car's efficiency in terms of miles per
gallon of gasoline is a function. If a car
typically gets 20 mpg, and if you input 10
gallons of gasoline, it will be able to
travel roughly 200 miles.

2. Formulate a function (equation): The fee to

explore a cave is Php 700 per person. Represent
the fee to explore a cave as a function of the
number of tourists who wish to explore the cave.
Let f as the fee to explore a cave and t as the
number of tourist. Show your solution and
highlight your final answer. D. EQUATION

Since the fee to explore a cave is Php f(x)= 3x + 5 f(x)= 3x + 2

f(-1)= 3(-1) + 5 f(-1)= 3(-1) + 2
700 per person then the cost function is
f(-1)= -3 + 5 f(-1)= -3 + 2
f(t)= 700t.
f(1)= 2 f(-1)= -1

3. Give an example of function a. table of values, b. f(x)= 3 + -2 f(x)= 3x + -8

4. Evaluate the following: Show your complete
solution and highlight your final answer.

A. Given f (x) = 16x + 9, if x = ½

f (½) = 16 (½)+9
f (½) = 8+9
f (½) = 17

B. Given g(x)= √5x−9, g(5)=?

g (5) = √5(5)-9
g (5) = √25-9
g (5) = √16

C. Given h(x)=x²−2x−1, h(9)=?

h (9) = (9)²-2(9)-1
h (9) = 81 – 18-1
h (9) = 62

D. Given h(x)=x²−2x−1, h(-x)=?

h (-x) = (-x)²-2(-x)-1
h (-x) = x²+2x-1

E. Given h(x)=x²−2x−1, h(x+2)=?

h (x+2) = (x+2)²-2(x+2)-1
h (x+2) = x²+4x+4-2x-4-1
h (x+2) = x²+4x-2x+4-4-1
h (x+2) = x²+2x-1
