Course Project 1 Ogl

This document provides an analysis of the awareness and potential impacts of artificial intelligence from the perspective of a baseball glove company employee. It discusses the lack of awareness about AI within the company currently. It also examines potential economic, political, sociological, and psychological impacts of AI. Economically, it raises concerns about job loss and increased disability payments. Politically, it warns about the spread of fake news and national security threats. Sociologically, it suggests AI could lead to social isolation and community collapse. Psychologically, it posits AI may cause depression, lack of motivation, and even suicide from widespread job displacement. The document considers both positive and negative potential effects.

PART ONE: COURSE PROJECT:
“ANALYSIS, INTERPRETATION, AND PLANNING FOR THE IMPACT OF AI”

What Level of Awareness Exists?

I was trying to think of ways to start this assignment by how the organization I am in is aware of

artificial intelligence, and what it can do in the future. At this point in time there is almost no

weirdness of what artificial intelligence is going to do to the club industry and baseball as a

whole. I can tell you for a fact that my boss does not think about this nor does he want to,

because of how small the operation is ran at the organization I am in. It is basically a family

business that has blossomed into something much bigger, and will potentially take over a large

part of baseball gloves being used by pro baseball players. For example last night I went to a

Padres game with a picture Joe Musgrove and the leftfielder Jorge Mateo both using 44

professional gloves, the company I work for. It is free branding to have those players use the

clubs on TV especially for a small San Diego Glove company that has the potential to turn into

something very big in the near future. As of right now, my awareness that exists for artificial

intelligence that can somewhat change the company in the future is production, which would cut

almost all production costs and prevent production from happening overseas. That is, in my eyes

a good idea and something positive because the places where these gloves are being produced

right now is not a healthy environment and the shipping time takes about five weeks from order

to the front porch. In my opinion that is too long and artificial intelligence, along with creating

the gloves domestically, will lead to cheaper gloves and also people getting their gloves quicker
than they would usually expect when getting them built in Taiwan or China like they are today.

Now going in to my own awareness of artificial intelligence, I did not have a firm grasp on it

before this course and only knew of what I have heard through Elon musk and what he has spoke

about how artificial intelligence Now going in to my own awareness of artificial intelligence, I

did not have a firm grasp on it before this course and only knew of what I have heard through

Elon musk and what he has spoke about how artificial intelligence can affect us in the future.

Going on to my interviews, most of the people around me do not have a solid grasp on artificial

intelligence also, and have very different opinions on it. For example, my friend Logan here at

Arizona State has a very strong opinion on how artificial intelligence can be very useful for the

medical field and house surgeries can become a lot more precise in the future working with

artificial intelligence. He also wants to be careful with it to make sure it does not affect the

workforce and health, because he wants a job in the future obviously. Jumping over to my other

friends in my fraternity, I had an interview with my friend Jacob, who had no idea about where

the world is with the development of artificial intelligence. I share the fact on how China can be

leading the world in artificial intelligence by 2035, and that scared him because he understands

what that means for our future in our kids future, and how we must not let China take the lead.

Or interview alone let him to do more research on his own about artificial intelligence and I

came into his room later to find him watching YouTube videos about artificial intelligence and

how advances can change the near future of how we view the world in the workforce in the

United States. I already touched on what changes I think are coming for the future for my job

and I am lucky that the changes are not as dramatic as I see them being in other workforces. It is

scary though to see how much other jobs will change and how they will even just disappear in

the future. That is some thing we need to control and something we have to look out for in the
future, because our kids and grandkids will need jobs way down the line in the mid two

thousands.

The Economic/Political Impact of AI

Economic and political impacts of artificial intelligence that scare me and open my eyes right

now or how the amount of jobs that can be lost in the very near future due to artificial

intelligence, and how the infrastructure collapse in the United States. I learned in the textbook

how the lack of incentive to work hard to decline due to artificial intelligence and the amount of

people on disability paychecks will increase. That is very sad to think about due to the fact of

how this country was built and how hard people work in their jobs these days. We cannot lose

that American grid that we have, and I’m very scared to live in a world where the majority of

middle to lower class jobs will be overtaken by artificial intelligence such as trucking and other

types of issues. The political impact can be how fake news spread and created by artificial

intelligence by accident, and if we do not take control of how fast artificial intelligence can grow

and learn we will be in a lot of trouble. Just seeing how much distrust there is in the media these

days, I am very scared to see the future of what the political impact of artificial intelligence can

be. We also have to be extremely careful of how other countries use artificial intelligence for the

wrong reasons, and how countries could even use it as a weapon against us in the war and also

domestically.
The Sociological Impact of AI

The next two prom scare me, because I believe artificial intelligence can negatively affect the

sociology of the United States and people around the world. If we get more dependent on

artificial intelligence, I can see us socially collapsing and turning into a hermit like community

where we are very dependent on technology and not on face-to-face human contact. I am more of

a fan of connecting with people personally and creating opportunity in person, so that particular

scares me for the future. Another example could be how bad smaller communities could collapse

socially once their jobs are taken by artificial intelligence. There could be riots and many types

of protest once they are pushed past their brink of stress and lack of income. I could see some

type of revolution against artificial intelligence and computers in the future where jobs like

trucking become extinct and AI is now driving cars everywhere around the United States in

around the world. If the trucking industry is destroyed I believe those millions of jobs could be

something that we don’t understand that we need. It is very good with Elon musk is doing when

it comes to electronic cars and AI driving, but I think the full self driving capability should be

called down in their new semi trucks to prevent these jobs from being taken. Another place

where I think could struggle sociologically is the inner city because it is already struggling how it

is today and most large cities, an artificial intelligence taking jobs will do nothing to better those

issues that we are facing.

The Psychological Impact of AI

Like sociology above, I am very scared of what psychological impacts artificial intelligence can

have on a community in the world, because I can see things going fairly poorly in the future. If
artificial intelligence takes over multiple forms of work and can perform easy jobs for free,

people will have no will to work hard anymore or strive to be better because they will believe

artificial intelligence will take everything from them like It did in the first wave of job in packs. I

can unfortunately see in the future many people with extreme depression and no will to live, and

unfortunately suicide. It is the Darkside to artificial intelligence and it’s something that I have

thought about in the past. Suicide went up this year when it came to COVID-19 and how that

affected the world, because of all the jobs it took. I can’t imagine how the world would react

once very large corporations moved to a full artificial intelligence workforce and fire thousands

of people. The amount of backlash will be unbelievable and it will be very hard to understand for

the people that get fired. There are a lot of very negative psychological impacts for artificial

intelligence, but I also did learn and pass modules of how it can treat depression and work with

people individually instead of the one size fits all form of mental health care. I also like how we

can help understand people with special needs who struggle with expressing their emotions and I

think that can be very positive for communities and families who struggle with issues like that.

There are two very polar opposite sides to what I think can happen in artificial intelligence

coming into this world, but at this point it is inevitable and we will see how this goes in the

future. Only time can tell this point.
