SCRIPT FOR NEW TOASTMASTERS

The Italics is stage managing and other stuff. Bold is what our New Toastmaster
(soon to be you) – is saying.
Rule Number One. Don’t worry about trying to do a perfect job. You can focus on
doing a perfect job when you’re the MC of the Academy Awards. Relax. This is
Toastmasters – it doesn’t count.
The Script Follows:

You will have been introduced by a club officer. After you’re all done, you’ll return control back to that
officer.

TOASTMASTER: Thank you, (first name of club officer) Good evening

Fellow Toastmasters and honored guests. I’m really looking forward
to the exciting program we have for you this evening. As you know
the theme this evening is “Springtime”, and the weather this week
has been … yada yada…..
<Talk about the Theme for a few minutes – you can intersperse your words about the theme where ever
they make sense in the program. You probably don’t want to talk more than 5 minutes total on the
Theme.> BUT YOU CAN TALK FOR MUCH LESS.

TOASTMASTER: (continued) Yada, yada… It takes a lot of help to run a

Toastmaster’s meeting. One of the key people is the Grammarian.
Tonight’s Grammarian is (state full name). (State first name), why don’t you
come up here and tell us what a Grammarian does.
<Start applauding then shake the person’s hand as they reach the podium… The idea is to applaud and
shake the speaker’s hand when they approach and applaud and shake their hand when they depart. The
rule is that you don’t want to leave the podium unattended and you don’t want the speaker to walk
away without your thanking them – you probably want to situate yourself in the front row or close to
the podium.>.
TOASTMASTER: Now I’d like to introduce our Timer for the evening
<same routine….. introduce the Timer - THE TIMER SPEAKS FROM THE TIMING LIGHTS AND DOESN’T
COME UP TO THE PODIUM…. – then give the Timer a hand - And of course you can talk up the Theme as
you see fit. >

<Now Introduce the first speaker. As you get more experienced, you will call the speaker in advance,
get the Title and Project of the speech and find out how they want to be introduced.>

TOASTMASTER: Our first speaker has been with Toastmasters for 1

year and this is the last speech in her CC manual. Her speech is titled
“My Year Abroad”. Please give a big hand to “full name”

IMPORTANT: AFTER THE SPEECH YOU ASK THE TIMER TO GIVE YOU TWO MINUTES SO EVERYONE
CAN COMPLETE THEIR EVALUATIONS.

TOASTMASTER: Our second speaker……

IMPORTANT: AFTER THE SPEECH YOU ASK THE TIMER TO GIVE YOU TWO MINUTES SO EVERYONE
CAN COMPLETE THEIR EVALUATIONS.

TOASTMASTER: We’ve just heard three wonderful speeches, and

now we’re ready for something completely different. The next part of
the program is called “Table Topics” and (State full name) will tell us all
about it… please welcome….
<The Table Topics master will now be a mini-Toastmaster and introduce and thank speakers. Ideally the
Table Topics are done around 15 minutes after the hour. Our new policy is to try to give all members a
chance to speak. After the last Table Topic speaker, you’ll thank the Table Topics person and go on to
introduce the General Evaluator>.

TOASTMASTER: Evaluation and positive feedback is an important part

of Toastmasters. I’m now going to introduce our General Evaluator
who is responsible for those functions. Please welcome (State Full Name).
At this point you’re basically done. The General Evaluator will now be a mini-Toastmaster and welcome
and thank the Evaluators, Timer and Grammarian reports.

Lastly the General Evaluation part is over, you’ll thank the General Evaluator you can talk a little more
about your them and then you’ll return control to the club officer who introduced you.

TOASTMASTER: I hope you’ve enjoyed the meeting… now I’ll return

control of the meeting to (full name of person who opened it)

That’s it. You did a GREAT JOB!
