This document provides an overview of different types of input and output devices for computers. It discusses keyboards like traditional, notebook, virtual, and thumb keyboards. It also covers pointing devices such as mice, trackballs, touchpads, joysticks, and motion sensing devices. The document outlines various scanning devices including optical scanners, flatbed scanners, and card readers. It then discusses output devices like monitors, printers, portable media players, projectors, and speakers. Finally, it briefly mentions artificial intelligence, ergonomics, and virtual reality.

Lecture last Tuesday: Introduction to Computing.
Input devices any data where any instruction is by use
the computer. 4 types of Keyboard Traditional keyboard- 101 keys -------Base from ASCII stands for American Standard Code for Information Interchange. Notebook keyboard-use by the laptop Virtual keyboard- installed in cellphone and tablet Thumb keyboard- handy keyboard. Use for gaming
Point devices- most natural of all human gesture.
Trackballs- control the pointer by rotating the ball with your thumb. Wheel buttons- that can be rotated to scroll information that display in the monitor. Optical mouse-is advance computer pointing device that is use light Touchpad- control the pointer by moving and tapping of the fingers on the surface of the pad Pointing stick-located in the middle in the keyboard, control the pointer by directing the stick with one finger Touch screen-allow user to select action or commands by touching the screen with the fingers Game controller- are device that provide input to computer games --- joy stick Dance pad- is an electronic game controller that use by feet Game pad- is design by 2 hand Motion sensing devices- Stylus-common use by tablets, PC, and PDA Scanning devices-convert text and imagers into a form that system unit can process --optical scanner Flat bed scanner- is like as copy machine Document scanner-is similar to a flat bed scanner except that it can quickly scan multi page documents Portable scanner- is typically hand held device Card reader-it interpret encoded formation Bar code scanner-is usually found in grocery store Universal product code (UPC)-almost all supermarket use electronic cash register and a bar code system called UPC RFID reader- radio frequency identification it is a tiny chip that can be embedded in most everything.
Character mark recognition devices
MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition)- it usually uses in check OCR (Optical Character recognition)- this are usually uses in the department store. OMR (optical mark recognition) – usually use in examination
IMAGE CAPTURING DEVICES
Digital Camera- are similar to traditional cameras except that the images are recorded digitally on a disc or in the cameras memory. Web Cam.- are specializes video cameras that captures images and send them to computer for broadcast over the internet. Audio Input Devices Voice recognition system- use a microphone
OUTPUT DEVICES- it a process data or information,
takes or typically graphics, photos or videos. Types of output devices Printer- Monitor- most frequently use output device. Features of monitor Resolution- is the most important features - It display everything. PIXEL/ DOTPICt- is the distance between each pixels Contras ratio- it indicates a monitors to display color. Active Display Area-Is measured by a diagonal length of a monitor viewing area. Aspect ratio-is determined by the width of a monitor by its height. Flat panel monitor – are the almost widely use type monitor of the day LCD/LiquidCrystalDisplay- is the technology used for displays in notebook and other small computers. TFTLC/Team Film transistor liquid crystal- which each pixel is independently activated producing high quality and energy efficiency image. Amoled/active matrix organic light emitting diode- Is a newer technology and its becoming widely used.
Electronic Books / E-book – are traditional printed
books in electronic format. Other monitors *digital/ interactive white boards- are specialized with a large display connected to a computer or projector. *HDTV / High definition television – deliver a much clearer and more detailed wide screen picture than a regular television. *CRT / cathode ray tube- similar in size and technology to older television. Printers- other than printers Inkjet printers – spray ink at high speed on to the surface of paper. Laser printer- uses a technology similar to that use on a photocopying machine. Cloud printers- connected to the internet that provides printing services on the internet. Thermal printer- use it elements to provide images on heat sensitive paper. Plotters – are a special purpose printers for producing a wide range of a specialized output. Audio & video devices Portable media – also know as digital media players, are electronic devices for storing and playing digital media.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) – Is a field of computer
science that attempts to develop computer system that can mimic or stimulate human sense thought processes, and actions.
Ergonomics- people use computers to enrich their
personal and private lifes. Virtual Reality(VR)- is an artificial or stimulated, reality created in 3-D by computers. Projector- Speaker -
