INTRODUCTION TO SOLIDWORKS
Home Tab
This will help you open new and existing documents, view recent documents and
folders, and access SOLIDWORKS resources.

Menu Bar
It contains the SOLIDWORKS menus, a set of Quick Access tools, the
SOLIDWORKS search and the Help option.
Welcome to SOLIDWORKS
Opens the Welcome dialog.
New
Creates a new document.
Open
Opens an existing document.
Save
Saves the active document.
Print
Display the print dialog box.
Undo
Reverses the last action.
Select
Selects sketch entities, edges, components etc.
Rebuild
Rebuilds the features that have changed in a model since last rebuild.
File Properties
Shows the summary information of the active document.
Option
Changes options settings for Solidworks.
CommandManager
It is context-sensitive toolbar that dynamically updates based on the toolbar you
want to access.
Manager Pane
It is means to create, select, and view multiple configurations of parts and
assemblies in a document.

1. FeatureManager
makes selection and filtering operations simple, and provides access to many
folders and tools that are useful when working with models.
Metadata folders
a full-featured data management solution for organizations large and
small.
Reference Geometry
You can use reference geometry in the creation of several kinds of
features.
Features
Features toolbar.
Freeze Bar
Controls the point at which a part's Feature Manager design tree rebuilds.
Rollback Bar
to temporarily roll back to an earlier state, to absorbed features, roll
forward, roll to previous, or roll to the end of the Feature Manager design
tree.
2. PropertyManager
Means to set properties and other options for many SOLIDWORKS commands.
3. ConfigurationManager
a means to create, select, and view multiple configurations of parts and assemblies
in a document.
4. DimXpertManager
are used add details to the model for fabrication by adding tolerance features and
associated 3D annotations.
5. DisplayManager
Lists the appearances, decals, lights, scene, and cameras applied to the current
model.
6. Display Pane Splitter
You can display any combination of: Feature Manager design tree
Property Manager, Configuration Manager.
7. Hide/Show
Controls the visibility of all types.
8. Display Mode
Used to showcase a part/component differently within one model/assembly.
9. Appearances
The appearances applied to the current model.
10. Transparency
Multibody parts and components that display in Shaded or Shaded with Edges
modes change from opaque to transparent.
Status Bar
It provides information related to the function that you are performing.
An icon for accessing the Reload dialog box when you use
collaboration options.
Unit System , which shows the unit system for the active
document in the status bar and lets you change or customize the unit
system.
An icon to display or hide the Tags box, used to add keywords to
features and parts to aid in searching.
1. Zoom to Fit
Zooms in or out so you can see the entire model, assembly, or drawing sheet.
2. Zoom to Area
Zooms in to an area that you select by dragging a bounding box.
3. Previous View
After moving your model to one or more views, you can return your model or
drawing to a previous view. You can undo the last 10 view changes.
4. Section View
a part or assembly document, the model is displayed as if cut by planes and
faces that you specify, to show the internal construction of the model.
5. Dynamic annotation views
You can control how annotations are displayed when you rotate models.
6. View Orientation
Display a dialog box where you can change the view orientation or number of
viewports.
7. Display Style
You can set options for the default display of edges in all drawing documents.
8. Hide all types
Controls the visibility of all types.
9. Edit Appearance
Change an appearance by assigning a predefined appearance or by using
Task Pane
This provides access to SOLIDWORKS resources, libraries of reusable design
elements, views to drag onto drawing sheets, and other useful items and information.
1. SOLIDWORKS Resources
Opens the welcome dialog.
2. Design Library
Subfolders populated by SOLIDWORKS with reusable items such as parts,
blocks, and annotations. You can add folders and content.
3. File Explorer
Duplicates File Explorer from your local computer and displays the recent
documents and open in solidworks.
4. View Palette
To quickly insert one or more predefined views to the drawing.
5. Appearances, Scenes, and Decals
Appearances-defines the visual properties of a model, including color and
texture.
Scenes- provide a visual backdrop behind a model.
Decals- is a 2D image applied to a model.
6. Custom Properties
custom and configuration-specific properties into SOLIDWORKS files.
Graphics Area
The graphics area displays and lets you manipulate parts, assemblies, and
drawings.
1. Reference Triad
used to change the view orientation. h
2. Selection Breadcrumbs
a context-based view of the current selection.
3. Triad
Manipulating various objects such as 3D sketch entities, parts, certain
features, and components in assemblies.
4. Origin
Appears in blue and represents the (0,0,0) coordinate of the model.
7. Viewports
view models through one, two, or four viewports.

This is used to find information in documentation and forums.
SOLIDWORKS Help
If you have questions, while you use SOLIDWORKS, you can find answers in
many ways.

Kindly create part of model of the figure shown below and plot in a drawing showing
third angle of projection. (Top View, Front View, Right Side View, and Isometric View).

PROCEDURE:
STEP 1: First click the welcome to solid works then click part icon
STEP 2: Before starting at the bottom right corner check if the unit system is IPS, according to
the direction given.
STEP 3: Choose what best for you to start on, for me i started on front plane.
STEP 1: Select line and then sketching out the inclined support.
STEP 2: After sketching out then use the smart dimension to check or adjust the given
dimension, measurement to insure if it is correct or not
STEP 3: Right after that check every line for the relation to avoid errors
STEP 4: Sketch the circle right in the middle, pick a point then we are going to locate it in X and
Y, then specify the diameter of the circle. You can check the diameter using the smart
dimension.
