SAMPLE Ni Sir

The document provides a comparative outline of a qualitative and quantitative study on child language acquisition. The qualitative study used a case study approach to observe a three-year-old child's simultaneous bilingual development and the impact of social media exposure. The quantitative study used surveys to examine the role of social media in university students' English vocabulary development. Both studies found social media plays an important role in language learning. However, the qualitative study focused on a single child while the quantitative study examined university students.

Sample Comparative Outline

Child Language Acquisition

1. INTRODUCTION

1.1. The studies being reviewed discusses the mechanism of child language

acquisition quantitatively and qualitatively. This topic is a deeply contested area of

language learning and linguistics because much is still not known about it. It is

therefore essential to expand the boundaries of what is known to bridge the gap that

exists in the topic being investigated by the studies under review.

1.2. Practical Research 1 introduces the basic concepts of qualitative and quantitative

research to young researchers like us. To deepen our appreciation and understanding

of the various concepts, it is important for us to witness how research works.

Language acquisition is a concept that will help researchers like us to see actual use

of the various concepts discussed to us in class.

1.3. This comparative summary aims to help us see the similarities, differences,

strengths, and weaknesses of quantitative and qualitative research in the topic we

have chosen.

2. BODY/ DISCUSSION

2.1. The Research Objectives

2.1.1. Study Objectives

2.1.1.1. Qualitative Study Objectives

2.1.1.1.1. Describe the level of simultaneous bilingualism of the subject.

2.1.1.1.2. Know the impact of social media exposure to the simultaneous

bilingual language acquisition skill of the child.

2.1.1.1.3. Recognize the difficulties the child encountered in learning two

languages and tell how she overcame these difficulties

2.1.1.2. Quantitative Study Objectives

2.1.1.2.1. Identify the role of social media in vocabulary development at

university.

2.1.1.2.2. Highlight the views of university teachers regarding the use of

social media in vocabulary development of English language.

2.1.1.2.3. Make implementable suggestions for integrating social media in

vocabulary development of English language at university level.

2.1.2. Some of the major points of objectives of both studies are the impact of social

media in learning a language and making suggestions that would help those

who are learning a language use social media.

2.1.3. Some of the major similarities between the studies are in language learning

and the impact of social media to this experience. The major difference

between the two is that the qualitative study focused more on a single child

respondent while the other study focused on university-level respondents.

2.2. The Research Methods

2.2.1. The qualitative study used the case study design using interviews, direct

interaction, and observation of the respondent. The said study interacted and

observed the respondent for 30 hours. The quantitative study used a

descriptive design using a cross-sectional technique. 36 university level

teachers were asked to answer a researcher-made questionnaire.

2.2.2. The qualitative study used a case study design, and the data collection method

was observation. The observation data was analyzed by tallying the activities

of the respondent and determining the themes of what she was saying and

doing. The quantitative study used a researcher-made survey questionnaire to

collect data from 36 university teachers. The data obtained was subjected to

statistical analysis.

2.3. Significant Results, Conclusion, Implications, and Recommendation

2.3.1. Presenting the Summary while Comparing/ Contrasting

2.3.1.1. The qualitative study revealed that a child is capable of learning 2

very different languages at once, early social media exposure has a

significant impact in language learning, and that the child is still flexible

and still has much to learn. The quantitative study revealed that social

media plays an important role in vocabulary development of learners at

university level, using social media is easier as compared to reading

materials and it is also important in interacting with other people in

learning language.

2.3.1.2. The qualitative summary revealed that language learning of

children is biological or caused by the development of the brain and the

body parts required for language learning, social media assists in this two-

fold development. The quantitative study on the other hand revealed that

social media role is dominant in vocabulary development of English

language at university level.

2.3.1.3. Both studies revealed how important the role of social media is in

learning a language. Both also suggested that more studies be conducted to

understand the topic.

3. CONCLUSION/ SYNTHESIS

3.1. The studies are important because they revealed language learning in children

and adults.

3.2. The strong points of the studies are the data collection procedures done since they

are validated by a panel of experts, and that the design used were appropriate for the

studies. The weaknesses are the insufficient data to fully understand the problem and

the extreme difference between the respondents of the study.

3.3. Qualitative and quantitative research are important in generating new knowledge

and operationalizing the knowledge in the real-world context.
