and Development
Theory argues that cognitive abilities are socially guided and constructed. As
such, culture serves as a mediator for the information and development ofspecific
abilities,such as learning,memory, attention,and problem solving.It is proposed that
culture-specific tools play an integral role in the way children organize and think about
the world.Cognitive development involves the active internalization ofproblem –solving
processes asa result of mutual interaction between children and others.Children learn
how to think through their interactions with others.According to Vygotsky’s there are
some theoretical predictions like A. Developmental significance of private speech it
represents externalized thought:its function is to communicate with the self for the
purpose of self-guidance and self direction.B.Course Development according to him,it
increasing at the younger ages but gradually decreasing as it loses its audible quality
and becomes internal thought.C.Negative;is eventually replaced by social speech it
means the child/children they have a positive thought at the younger ages.D.Influence
of Environmental Contexts,Task Difficulty according to him it increases with task
difficulty, the greater effort needed to reach a solution necessities the action regulating
role ofprivate speech. There are Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory are, cognitive
development varies across culture, stems from social interactios, social processes
becomeindividual-physiological processes, adults are important as change agents.
Vygotsky’s theory is one that I have used especially when discussing
earlychildhoodand development. In the past I’ved used Vygotsky’s Theories in essay
and reflections to explain my own observations and support statements I have made
surroundings the social nature of learning. In my experience with young childrenand
learning,I’ve found that my observations can usually beexplained using thistheory. So I
agree with most spects of his sociocultural theory. While I have view on Vygotsky’s
theories I’ve always believed that thre is no one theory on child development, and that
eachtheory has strengths and limitations .I’ve never considered Vygotsky’s as invalid or
wrong because I always thought histhories arequite strong.Vygotsky’s theory does
create somewhat of a stereotype of advantage and disadvantage-chilren who are raised
in an environment with limited social interaction could be viewed as being less prepared
or equipped todeal with the educational context.
