PSA Lab: 3: To Study and Verify The Ferranti Effect of The Transmission Line at No Load

This experiment aimed to verify the Ferranti Effect of a transmission line at no load. Measurements were taken of the receiving end voltage (VR) at different points along the line. VR increased from 335V to 347.8951V as the distance from the sending end increased, demonstrating the Ferranti Effect where the receiving voltage rises due to line capacitance when there is no load or a light load. The conclusion is that the Ferranti effect causes the receiving voltage to increase as the transmission line length increases when it is not loaded.

𝑉𝑠 = 230 𝑉.

Sr. No. VR Observed (V)

V𝑅1 335

V𝑅2 342.0134

V𝑅3 346.2467

Conclusion : Ferranti effect occurs when line is slightly loaded or is at no load, caused by capacitive
effect. As the line length increases rise in receiving end voltage at no load increases.
