_______ Bayanihan A Mural by Filipino National Artist Carlos "Botong" Francisco beauty thought me that the
artwork is very detailed in giving the situation of the Filipinos back in the day. The colors make the artwork more
immersive, the painting is precise in giving us the situation of our ancestors. It gives a feeling of patriotism when
you look at the painting. It is more on the classic artwork that would just please your eyes and mind. The physical
structure of the artwork looks like a vintage looking. The colour choices was more on the cool earth tone and it
does not have heavy brush strokes which makes it calmer. The colours are well-balanced and has a strong contour
that makes the images seems like a pop-out and the art showed a culture and reality. The colors in the mural are
vibrant which most of us like and what is good about this is that it is not over saturated. The art style blended well
with the main idea that it successfully showcased the entire theme and atmosphere of the bayanihan culture. Both
the mural’s physical aspect and its background story is beautiful, even at first glance. It is evident that the artist
paid huge attention from the largest details shown, such as the nipa hut and the natural kayumanggi skin color, up
to the smallest, such as the background scenery and the emotions shown on the faces of the people. The style
became a factor in its overall beauty because it made the painting perceivable by many and it is detailed enough to
recognize every part of the painting. The artwork is precise in giving us the situation of our ancestors. In addition,
since we are a Filipino, we were able to immediately recognize and relate to the whole concept of the mural, “
bayanihan ”, which made it a lot more fascinating. This artwork promotes the culture of the Filipinos. The bayanihan
culture is a norm in the Filipinos back in the day. They help their fellow Filipinos when they’re in need. This act of
kindness is solely just for helping other people without asking for anything in return. It shows how Filipinos are
altruistic and bighearted people. As long as they can lend their hands to others, they will not hesitate to do so."
"The mural was done for UNILAB, I think that the concept of bayanihan was what they have agreed upon because
they share the same goal—to help the people. It represents the simple life of Filipinos in the past and their
characteristics, it gives off the idea of how harmonious the lives of the Filipino people with their fellowmen back
then. As for a general perspective, this artwork shows the idea of helping and support. The painting gives a sense
of love with our own race. Thinking that our ancestors have this mindset makes me proud every time I see this
mural. It shows our unity and our strong bond as one race that even though our status in life is different, we
continue to act as one family. This particular situation was what came to my mind while inspecting this mural:
another family had to leave but as long as they have people around to help them, every burden will be lighter and
therefore easier to carry. Working together towards achieving one goal and that is to help a fellowman is an
amazing idea to think of. A bond so strong to go out of your way and help them shows how deep-rooted the bond
and unity of the Filipino people. We should be helping and encouraging one another, not pushing down and having
a quarrel with others. What we really need is unity not for ourselves but for our own country. What we decided to
share Moving to several different locations and finding new means to survive was and will always be hard but
having people who are closely tied to them made a huge difference. The whole mural portrays a portion of what
used to be a normal life of Filipinos: barefooted and living in temporary places. Even though “ bayanihan ” is widely
praised and a positive trait that represents us, the gloomy faces of the people in the artwork also reminded me that
this “ bayanihan ” only happens after tribulation. I think that we should be proud of this wholesome characteristic
only when we learn to truly understand, value, and empathize what they have been through. The mural is for
everyone, not just for adults to view and understood. The painting shows only the life of Filipinos back then, which
is not controversial or obscene to people. It is the willingness of the Filipinos to lend their hands and their time to
other people because they believe it is what should be done. It shows the desire to support one another without
having something in return. As a Filipino, it makes us very proud that this kind of attitude is passed down in many
generations and is still being practiced today.
Direction: Direction: Make an essay about decorative arts and crafts. Write your answer below at least
100 words.
Question: As student and a member of the society, how important decorative arts and crafts to a
certain place like Davao city?
When art is created that speaks to disparate elements of a group —musically, graphically,
dramatically—it transforms the group into a community. When the community comes together, they
reach for the forms that they share, over which they bond, through which they communicate, and they
celebrate their identity. As a SHS student of Holy Cross of Agdao, through arts and craft, we may be
able to learn, value and appreciate artifacts and images across cultures and times especially here in
Davao City. Experience in design, art, and crafts enables us to reflect critically on their own work and
those by others. We learn to act and think like designers and artists, working intelligently and
creatively._ Art influences society by changing opinions, instilling values and translating experiences
across space and time. Research has shown art affects the fundamental sense of self. Painting,
sculpture, music, literature and the other arts are often considered to be the repository of a society's
collective memory. The arts can open dialogue among diverse groups by creating safe spaces for
engagement, thus allowing new relationships to take root. They help us understand and bridge cultural
distinctions. They contribute to economic opportunity and community vitality. They enhance our quality
of life.__

that you find interesting. Follow instruction on PPT slide # 24.
Describe the elements seen in the painting and its meaning to the overall artwork.
Following his retirement from the University of Santo Tomas, Edades retired to Davao City with his American-
born wife Jean and their only daughter, Joan. There, he spent most of his time at his garden in Davao,
listening to Chopin as he painted and received friends. The many years that Edades spent at the university is
foregrounded by the lush painting "UST Botanical Gardens", which emphasizes the master’s deep interest in
gardening and horticulture. He also taught for a time at the Philippine Women’s College and resumed his
career as an artist. His later works are said to be "flatter." His portraits and genre paintings in Davao are not
seen to be as heavy or solid as his earlier painting of "The Builders." From Cézanne, Edades grew more
interested in the style of Utamaro of Japan and other artists whose charm is in color rather than solidity.
Edades also co-founded the Mindanao Ethnoculture Foundation which focused on the indigenous culture and
heritage of Mindanao. In his last fifty years, the subject of his paintings had also become indigenized.
And in 1976, at the pinnacle of his career, Edades was named Philippine National Artist for Painting.
On March 7, 1985, Victorio C. Edades - a great Filipino master and Father of Philippine Modern Art, leader of
the revolutionary Thirteen Moderns, National Artist, and a distinguished retiree in Davao City, passed away at
the age of 89, leaving behind him a legacy of distinct style of Philippine Modern Art - an art which had been
an obvious awe to his contemporaries, an admiration to his followers, and will undoubtedly serve as an
inspiration to the generations of budding Filipino artists in the many years to come.
I pick these canvas since it shows the magnificence and peacefulness of my old neighbourhood previously. It
demonstrates as an astounding and splendid nitty gritty piece, since it shows our seascape way in those days.
It features the practical view portrayal to more pioneer dash of craftsmanship. What's more, finally it portrays
the excellence of our own city which is Davao City.
