CLASS 11th JOB ROLE: Optical Fibre
Technician
Q. What is an OFC route plan?
Optical fibre route plan is an integral part of the total project. It is important for
finalizing the drawing for the route of optical fibre cable. Following main items of work
shall constitute the Route Plan:
 Selecting the route in general.
 Deciding the number of drop and insert locations.
 Deciding the size and assessing the length of cable required.
 Identification of hazards and safety measures
 Working out the requirements of heavy tools and plants depending upon the
nature of the territory, availability of roads along the tracks, etc.
 Assessing the special problems of the section such as type of soil, long cuttings,
new embankments, water logged areas, types of major bridges, major yards.

Q: What is route inspection and what are it benefits?

Route inspection is identification of issues, damages and other challenges associated
with work. Benefits of route inspection are as under;
 Increase the quality of work.
 Finalizes the physical location.
 Helps to improve health and safety standard.
 Avoid error and re work.
 Locates gaps.
 Helps to determine the methods of installation and obstacles likely to be
encountered.
 Decrease or prevents accidents.
Explain steps of route inspection.
It is recommended that a survey of the cable route should be conducted. Manholes and
ducts should be inspected to determine the optimum splice point locations and duct
assignments. Potential problems with inner duct and cable placement should be
identified at this time.

Route diagrams:
A routing diagram or route diagram in the field of management engineering is a type
of diagram, that shows a route through an accessible physical space. Routing diagrams
are used in plant layout study, and manufacturing plant design.A routing diagrams
shows a route through a physical space. They are often considered a type of flow
diagram, but they differ from flowcharts, that a routing is pictured in a physical layout.
There is a similarity with design of Electrical equipment, where routing diagrams also in
show "the physical layout of the facility and equipment and how the circuit how the
circuit to the various equipment is run."Routing diagrams are used in plant layout
study. The routing diagram can consist of a floor plan with a trace attached, or a
3d cross section of a building with a trace. The routing diagram transforms into a flow
diagram when the physical dimensions are taken out of the equation.

Fibre optic link power budget:

FTTX: The optical power budget in a fiber-opticcommunication link is

the allocation of available optical power(launched into a given fiber by a
given source) among variousloss-producing mechanisms such as
launch coupling loss, fiberattenuation, splice losses, and connector
losses, in order toensure that adequate signal strength (optical power) is
availableat the receiver.
Multiplexing:Code Division Multiplexing (CDM) uses identifyingcodes to
distinguish one signal from another on a sharedmedium. Each signal is
assigned a sequence of bits called thespreading code that is combined
with the original signal toproduce a new stream of encoded data; a
receiver that knows thecode can retrieve the original signal
bysubtracting out thespreading code (a process called dispreading).
CDM is widelyused in digital television and radio broadcasting and in
3G
mobile cellular networks. Where CDM allows multiple signalsfrom
multiple sources, it is called Code-Division MultipleAccess (CDMA).
