Digital Assignment - 5: V S Akshit 19bee0435

This document contains the solutions to 4 questions for a digital assignment. It includes: 1) Analysis of blood pressure data from 13 patients to determine if a stimulus generally increases blood pressure. 2) A hypothesis test to analyze if a light bulb manufacturer's claim of a 25 month average life is valid based on data from a sample of 6 bulbs. 3) A hypothesis test to determine if the average life of 10 light bulbs is 4000 hours based on sample data. 4) A t-test to analyze if two treatments of NMU have identical effects based on weight data from each treatment.

DIGITAL ASSIGNMENT - 5

DIGITAL ASSIGNMENT-5:

Questions:

Q.1) A certain stimulus administered to each of the 13 patients resulted in the

following increase of blood pressure: 5, 2, 8, -1, 3, 0, -2, 1, 5, 0, 4, 6, 8. Can it be
concluded that the stimulus, in general, be accompanied by an increase in the
blood pressure?

Ans: Coding Part:

Q.2) The manufacturer of a certain make of electric bulbs claims that his bulbs
have a mean life of 25 months with a standard deviation of 5 months. Random
samples of 6 such bulbs have the following values: Life of bulbs in months: 24, 20,
30, 20, 20, and 18. Can you regard the producer’s claim to valid at 1% level of
significance?

Ans: Null Hypothesis H 0: µ = 25 months

Alternate Hypothesis H 1: µ ≠ 25 months

Coding Part:

*** At 5 degrees of freedom and 0.01 LOS t-critical value = 4.032

Since, t calculated value is less than the t-critical value, we can accept Null
Hypothesis.

Conclusion: Fail to reject Null Hypothesis

Q.3) The life time of electric bulbs for a random sample of 10 from a large
consignment gave the following data: 4.2, 4.6, 3.9, 4.1, 5.2, 3.8, 3.9, 4.3, 4.4,
5.6 (in 000 hours). Can we accept the hypothesis that the average life time of
bulbs is 4, 000 hours?

Ans: The alternate and the null hypothesis of this question can be given as:

Null Hypothesis H 0: µ = 4 in 000 hours

Alternate Hypothesis H 1: µ ≠ 4 in 000 hours
Test static (t)= 2.1483 df=9 p-value= 0.0602

Coding Part:

We should not reject null hypothesis, p-value > 0.05

Conclusion: We may conclude that the hypothesis that the average life time of
bulbs is 4000 hours.

Q.4) Data on weight (grams) of two treatments of NMU (nitroso- methyl urea)
are recorded. Find out whether these two treatments have identical effects by
using t test for sample means at 5% level of significance.

Ans: The alternate and the null hypothesis of this question can be given as:

Null Hypothesis H 0: Difference in their means is equal to zero

Alternate Hypothesis H 1: Difference in their means isn’t equal to zero.

Test static: t= -2.822 df=18 p-value=0.01129

Coding Part:

V S AKSHIT 19BEE0435

In the above question “x” refers to 0.2% and “y” refers to 0.4%

Conclusion: Since the p-value of the given test = 0.01129 < 0.05, we reject null
hypothesis. Therefore, we can say that the difference in their means is not equal
to zero.
