This document contains 6 questions from a preliminary quiz on transmission lines:
1. A transmission line has a reactance of 0.486 ohm per km. The question asks to find the conductor spacing D given the ground mean radius (GMR) and spacing between conductors.
2. The question asks to find the GMR of unconventional conductors shown in a figure in terms of the radius of an individual strand.
3. The question provides details about a 230 kV transmission line and asks to calculate the impedance of the 100 mile long line given information about the conductor, GMR, resistance per mile, and spacing between conductors.

PRELIM QUIZ 1
1. A transmission line has a reactance of 0.486 ohm per km. GMR is 2
cm and conductor spacing is horizontal such that Dab = D, Dbc = D, and Dca = 2D. Find the spacing D.
2. Find the GMR of each of the unconventional conductors shown Fig
3.16(d) in terms of the radius r of an individual strand.
3. A 230 kV transmission line is 100 miles long. The conductor is ACSR
of 1 113 000 CM. the conductors are horizontally arranged with 20ft spacing. The resistance per mile is 0.0969 ohm and its GMR is 0.0435ft. what is the impedance of the line?
4. A three phase transmission line is designed to deliver 190.5 MVA at
220kV over a distance of 63 km. The total transmission line loss is not to exceed 2.5% of the rated line MVA. If the resistivity of the conductor material is 2.84x10-8 ohm-m, determine the required conductor size in CM.
5. A completely transposed 60 Hz three phase line has flat horizontal
phase spacing with 10 m between adjacent conductors. The conductors are 1,590,00 CM ACSR with 54/3 standing. Line length is 200km. Determine the inductance in henry and the inductive reactance in ohm.
6. Each of the 1,590,000 CM conductors in (4) is replaced by two
795,000CM ACSR 26/2 conductors. Bundle spacing is 0.40m. Flat horizontal spacing is retained , with 10m between adjacent bundle centers. Calculate the inductive reactance of the line and compare it with that of single conductor. Make a short analysis of the design transformation.
