Pcol Lab Activity 2 3A

This document provides the instructions and questions for a biostatistics laboratory worksheet. It includes: 1. Defining key biostatistical terms like mean, median, mode, variance, and standard deviation. 2. Calculating values like the mean, median, mode, and range from sample data sets. 3. Explaining the differences between types of data and scales. 4. Providing formulas for common statistical parameters. 5. Solving problems involving the computation of statistical values from patient data and explaining the concept of statistical inference. The worksheet is intended to help students learn important biostatistical concepts and tools used in pharmacological and medical research.

Laboratory Activity BIOSTATISTICS

Title

Rationale Biostatistics is an important tool in pharmacological, biological or medical

researches that is used to summarize (descriptive statistics) experimental data in
terms of central tendency (mean or median) and variance (standard deviation,
standard error of the mean, confidence interval or range) but more importantly it
enables us to conduct hypothesis testing. This is of particular importance when
attempting to determine whether the pharmacological effect of one drug is
superior to another which clearly has implications for drug development

Objectives At the end of the activity, you must have:

1. Defined the different biostatistical terms.
2. Determined the different ways to present data.
3. Computed a sample mean, median, mode, variance, and standard deviation.
4. Explained what is meant by statistical inference.

Pre-Laboratory You are required to attend the Pre-Lab discussion on the introduction of
Discussion biostatistics in pharmacology on September 17, 2021 (Friday) 2-5PM.

Direction: Answer/solve the following questions and problems on biostatistics. This

worksheet must be accomplished and submitted per group.

Worksheet 1. Briefly define the following biostatistical terms:
