The cardiovascular system is a closed system of the heart and blood vessels.
The heart pumps blood
through a closed system of blood vessels. Blood vessels allow blood to circulate to all parts of the body. The arteries, usually red in color because they are oxygenated, carry blood from the heart to the capillaries within the tissue. Veins, usually blue in color because they have little oxygen, carry blood from capillaries to the heart. Capillaries are the smallest vessels in tissue in which gas exchange takes place. The function of the cardiovascular system is to supply oxygen and nutrients to the body tissues and to remove carbon dioxide and waste products. The vital importance of the heart is evident. Cardiovascular system tackles the important job of the heart and its needs of energy and oxygen to function. The heart is a pump made up of muscle tissue. Like all muscle, the heart needs a source of energy and oxygen to function. The heart's pumping action is regulated by an electrical conduction system that coordinates the contraction of the various chambers of the heart. The conduction system of the heart is the electrical pathway of the heart that leads to atria and ventricular contraction. The conduction system consists of pacemaker cells that generate spontaneous action potentials and then transmit these impulses throughout the heart. The conduction system of the heart includes the following structures, in sequence, the SA node, the AV node, the bundle of His, bundle branches, and Purkinje fibers. During the sinus rhythm in the electrical conduction, there is a presence of the cardiac action potential. The cardiac action potential begins in the sinus node, which is located high in the right atrium. Its cells spontaneously depolarize and initiate spontaneous depolarization of action potentials at a regular rate from the sinus node. This rate depends on various conditions, such as atrial dilation and sympathetic activation, but it is usually between 60 and 100 beats per minute (bpm) at rest. Myocytes are electrically coupled to each other via gap junctions. These structures consist of connexin molecules and allow direct intercellular communication. How these cardiac muscles do helps blood circulation? Heart muscle tissue is found only in your heart, where it performs coordinated contractions that allow your heart to pump blood through your circulatory system. The heart muscle tissue ensures that your heart pumps through involuntary movements. This is a feature that distinguishes it from skeletal muscle tissue that it can control.
