6.(a) Three bars made of copper, zinc and aluminium are of equal length and have cross section 500, 750 and [CO1,L5]
1000 square mm respectively. They are rigidly connected at their ends. If this compound member is (13Marks)
subjected to a longitudinal pull of 250 kN, estimate the proportional of the load carried on each rod and
the induced stresses. Take the value of E for copper = 1.3 × 105 N/mm2, for Zinc = 1.0 × 105 N/mm2
and for aluminium = 0.8 × 105 N/mm2. (Nov/Dec
2020)

6.(b) For the plane stress system shown in Fig Q.11 (b), find the major and minor principal stresses and the [CO1,L5]
planes on which they act. Also find the maximum shear stresses and the planes on which they act (13Marks)
7.(a) For the beam shown Draw the shear force and bending moment diagram. (Nov/Dec 2020) [CO2,L5]

7.(b) A timber beam of rectangular section of length 8 m is simply supported . A beam carries an UDL of 12 [CO2,L5]
KN/m over the entire length and a point load 10 KN at 3 m from the left support . If depth is 2 times the
width and stress in timber not exceeded to 8 N/mm^2. Find Suitable dimension of Section. (13Marks)
8.(a) A steel rod 20 mm diameter and 4 00 mm long is subjected to tensile force P acting axially . The [CO1,L5]
