Good luck!

1. ABC has vertices A (-4, -7), B (0, 1) and C (2, -5). Determine the slopes and lengths of the sides.
Using this information, classify the triangle. ( 4 marks)
2. The equation of a circle with centre O(0, 0) is r2 +y2 = 25. The points A(-3, 4) and B(5, 0) are the
endpoints of chord AB. DE right bisects the chord AB at F. Verify that the centre of the circle lies
on the right bisector of chord AB. ( 4 marks)
3. A cottage is to be built in a flat area near the straight road that connects the two resorts in a forest.
A new side road will connect the cottage to the road between the two resorts. On the area map,
the resorts have coordinates A (2.0, 8.5) and B (10.0, 4.5), while the site for the cottage is at C
(6.0, 1.5). Each unit on the map grid represents 0.5 km. What would be the shortest route (in km)
for the road to the cottage from the road connecting the two resorts? (2 marks)
4. △ABC has vertices A(—2,—3) and B(4,9) and C(—6,4). Find the equation of:
a. the median from C to AB ( 2 marks)
b. the altitude from C to AB ( 2 marks)
c. the right bisector of AB ( 2 marks)
5. A plan shows the positions of three entrances to a parking lot. A tall mast light is to be erected to
illuminate three entrances, A (-8, 14), B (-4, 8), and C (18, 10).
a. Where should the light be located to illuminate each entrance equally? ( 6 marks)
b. If the closest power line to the parking lot runs along a straight line containing points (0,
4) and (12, 10). At what point should the lighting contractors connect to the power line,
and how much cable will they need to reach the lamp? Each unit on the plan equals to 1m
( 4 marks)
6. Determine the type of triangle that is formed by the lines x + y =11, x - y = 1, and x - 3y = 3.
Justify your decision. ( 3 marks)
7. Classify the quadrilateral with vertices T(2, 4), U(8, 2), V(7, -1), and W(1, 1). Justify this
classification ( 2 marks)
8. How do you determine the equation of a circle that has its centre at the origin? ( 2 marks)
