Assignment 2 - Problems On Coplanar General Force System

The document describes 5 problems involving determining the resultant force of systems of coplanar forces. Each problem provides the forces acting in a diagram and asks the learner to calculate the magnitude, direction, and point of application of the resultant force with respect to a given point.

SYSTEM OF COPLANAR FORCES

1.1 GENERAL FORCE SYSTEM

1 For given system find resultant & its point

of application with respect to point O on
the x-axis (X intercept). Force, along CA =
100 N, along OD = 250 N, along ED = 150
N, along OE = 100 N. An clockwise
moment of 5000 N-cm is also acting at the
point O.
(R = 341.41 N, θ = 64.786˚, xi = 17.237
cm)

2 The forces acting on 1 m length of a dam

are shown in figure. Determine the
resultant force acting on the dam. Calculate
the point of intersection of the resultant
with the base.
(R = 137.12 N, θ = 79.92˚, x = 3.09 m)

3 Four forces & a couple are acting on a plate as shown in figure. Determine the resultant force & locate it
with respect to point A.

(R = 305.28 N, θ = 31.6, x = 0.475 m, y = 0.292 m, d = 0.249 m)

4 A system of forces acting on a bell crank is as shown. Determine the magnitude, direction & the point of
application of the resultant w.r.t. ‘O’.
