Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION

This chapter includes the comprehensive background study on the


factors that determine the advantages of online classes to the selected
grade 11 students in OLPCS-Imus. Online classes don't only enhance
and improve student learning outcome but also affects the students'
intentions that influence them to learn online. Hence, the main purpose
of this research is to identify what factors impact the students’ online
learning intentions in the future.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

This chapter introduces a comprehensive background about online


classes and its relation to the students. Online Education is a form of
distance education that has unlimited participation and interaction with
students and teachers from around the world. An online class is a course
conducted over the Internet. They are generally conducted through a
learning management system, in which students can view their course
syllabus and academic progress, as well as communicate with fellow
students and their course instructor. Online Learning is an interaction
process between students and teachers and study material in teaching
learning process. In other word, learning is a process to help the students
to study well. The media and the method of learning process in
transferring the material will be an important factor to get the best result.
The new normal now is a transformed concept of education with online
learning at the core of this transformation. Today, digital learning has
emerged as a necessary resource for students and schools all over the
world. For many educational institutes, this is an entirely new way of
education that they have had to adopt. Online learning is now applicable
not just to learn academics but it also extends to learning extracurricular
activities for students as well. In recent months, the demand for online
learning has risen significantly, and it will continue doing so in the
future.
As with most teaching methods, online learning also has its own set of
positives and negatives. Decoding and understanding these positives and
negatives will help institutes in creating strategies for more efficiently
delivering the lessons, ensuring an uninterrupted learning journey for
students.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study aims to answer the following questions:


The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of online
classes to those selected students of OLPCS-Imus.

1. What makes online learning effective?


2. What are the factors that determine the effectiveness of online
classes to the students?
3. How does these factors affect the students learning?

RESEARCH HYPOTHESES
• Some of the students believe that efficacy of online classes is better
than in-person learning.
• Online learning offers students the accessibility of time and place in
education.
• Online learning is reduced student's financial costs.
• Online learning increases students’ ability to set appropriate learning
goals and take their own learning.
• Online class showed that reducing variability in teaching styles across
classroom, resulted to an improved student performance.

SCOPE AND DELIMINATION

This study will be conducted in Our Lady of Pillar Catholic School


during the school year 2020-2021. The study is focused on the factors
that determine the effectiveness of online classes to selected grade 11
students of OLPCS-Imus. The participants who participated in the study
was randomly selected. This study will be conducted among the Senior
high school of OLPCS-Imus and expected to obtained enough
information for research process.

SIGNIFANCE OF THE STUDY


This study aims to create an information regarding to the factors that
determine the effectiveness of online classes to the selected students of
OLPCS-Imus. It would reveal the factors that can make their learning
more effective. This study will be beneficial to the following:

Students
This study is very beneficial to the students to know the
advantages of online classes. This may also help the students to become
aware of the learning issues especially the so-called student's issues, by
knowing the real purpose of this research and the way of producing
better learning and discipline to survive and thrive in the society.

Parents
The direct recipients of the output of this research are the children.
As parents enrolled their children in this institution, comes with self-
assurance that their children are given more education that would make
the a functional in the society.

Teachers
This study will be very beneficial to know the factors of the
effectiveness of online classes and its effect to their students learning.
They can help to improve students' performance. Through this research,
teachers may purposefully discover ways to enhance the education to
measure the effectiveness of online classes.
Future Researchers
This research will be helpful to researchers, especially the students. It
can help them to gain insights and knowledge about its effects and how
the school copes up with this issue.
