Part – B (513=65 Marks)

11. a) Test whether the following failure data of a system fits into exponential
distribution using Chi-square Goodness of Fit Test.
Time interval (hr) No. of observed failures
0 – 100 30
100 – 200 45
200 – 300 23
300 – 400 33

(OR)
b) The following data represent the time to failures of a device in a space craft.
Examine whether the data fits into exponential distribution or not using
Bartlett’s test
21.20, 16.10, 15.3, 5.80, 26.70, 53.10, 04.30, 07.30, 11.30, 41.50, 14.10, 32.10,

12. a) i) A component can be repaired at the constant rate of 10 per 8 hour day.
Compute the probability of a single repair. (5)
ii) A requirement exists for an engine fuel pump to be repaired within
3 hour 80 percent of the time. If the repair distribution is lognormal with
shape parameter = 0.40, what MTTR should be achieved to meet this goal ? (8)
(OR)
b) Construct a life table for the engines of a fleet of 180 single-engine aircraft
having the following annual failures and censors. Removals resulted from
aircraft eliminated from the inventory for various reasons other than engine
failure.
