Configuration DHCP server

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is as service that provides TCP/IP settings, such
as IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS server to the clients, automatically. In a
large enterprise network, it is difficult to manage IP addresses manually. Hence, DHCP can be a
useful feature to manage the IP addresses in a large enterprise network.

The configuration of DHCP server in Windows Server 2016 includes the following two major
tasks:

 Install the DHCP Server Role in Windows Server 2016

 Configure DHCP in Windows Server 2016

Install DHCP Server Role in Windows Server 2016

1. Installing roles and features in Windows Server 2016 is exactly same as we use for the
previous version of Windows Servers. To install the DHCP Server role on your server
machine, open the Server Manager console and click the Add roles and features
link. Click Next until the Select server roles page is displayed.
2. Select the DHCP Server check box. On the Add Roles and Features Wizard dialog
box, click Add Features.
3. The Select server roles page returns with the DHCP Server role check box selected, as
shown in the following figure, click Next.
4. Complete the installation process.

Now, create a new DHCP scope to specify the IP address ranges for your DHCP server. To do
so, select and right-click IPv4 and then select New Scope.
On the welcome page of the New Scope Wizard, click Next.
On the Scope Name page, specify a DHCP scope name as shown in the following figure, and
then click Next.
On the IP Address Range page, specify the start and end IP addresses from which the DHCP
server will allocate the IP addresses to the clients. For example, we will use the following IP
address range, as shown in the following figure. Click Next.

On the Add Exclusions and Delay page, exclude the IP addresses that you want to be not
distributed by the DHCP server. For example, we will exclude the following IP address range, as
shown in the following figure.
Click Add, and then click Next. On the Lease Duration page, review the default lease duration
limit, and then click Next.
On the Configure DHCP Options page, make sure that the Yes, I want to configure these
option now radio button is selected and then click Next.
On the Router (Default Gateway) page, in the IP address text box, type the address of your
router or server as a gateway.

Click Add, and then click Next. On the Domain Name and DNS Servers page, make sure that
your DNS server IP address is already populated. In this case,
On the WINS Servers page, we are not going to use WINS server, hence, leave it as is and click
Next.
On the Activate Scope page, make sure that the Yes, I want to activate this scope now radio
button is selected, as shown in the following figure. Click Next and complete the wizard.
Configuration of Web Server IIS and DNS server

Internet Information Services (IIS) is a flexible, general-purpose web server from Microsoft that
runs on Windows systems to serve requested HTML pages or files. An IIS web server accepts
requests from remote client computers and returns the appropriate response. This basic
functionality allows web servers to share and deliver information across local area networks
(LAN), such as corporate intranets, and wide area networks (WAN), such as the internet.

To Install IIS open the Server Manager console. Click the Add roles and features link, accept
the Web server IIS.
Click add web Site.
For web you need to add IP address for web and add extra IP address in Network card advanced
tab and add.

DNS (Domain name system)

The Domain Name System (DNS) is the phonebook of the Internet. Humans access information
online through domain names, like nytimes.com or espn.com. Web browsers interact through
Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. DNS translates domain names to IP addresses so browsers can
load Internet resources.

Configuration of DNS
On Forward zone, Right click, new zone

Click primary zone.

Active Directory Zone Replication Scope to select how this zone data will be replicated.

a. If this DNS server was within a forest, you may want to have the zone replicated to all DNS
servers within the forest for faster DNS resolution.

b. This Domain Controller is not currently part of a forest, so you can leave the option selected to
replicate, To all DNS servers running on domain controllers in this domain. Considered best
practice, this will establish redundancy in the case of failure.

c. Only choose, To all domain controllers in domain (for Windows 2000 compatibility) if you
have Windows 2000 DNS servers.
Dynamic Updates

a. Select the type of Dynamic updates to be allowed in this zone.

b. The options are Only secure (for AD-integrated), Allow both nonsecure and secure (not
advised), and Do not allow.

c. If you selected Do not allow, you would have to update any DNS records in your zone
manually.

d. We will leave the default option to Allow only secure dynamic updates, since this domain
utilizes Active Directory. This will enable client computers to register and update their resource
records as changes occur.

e. Click Next.
And Click next.

Enter the zone name

And click next and finish.

Right click and choose New Host (A or AAAA)..

Fill the IP address and click add host.

NAT (Network Address Translations)

Network Address Translation (NAT) is the process where a network device, usually a firewall,
assigns a public address to a computer (or group of computers) inside a private network. The
main use of NAT is to limit the number of public IP addresses an organization or company must
use, for both economy and security purposes.
Installation of NAT
First Server need to have two network cards, LAN and WAN.
To install the LAN Routing feature in Windows Server 2016, open the Server Manager console.
Click the Add roles and features link, accept the default selection until the Select Server roles
page displays.
On this page, select the Remote Access server role and then click Next.
Click Next and accept the default selections until the Select roles services page displays. On this
