Name:
Date Evaluated:
Evaluator: Learning Area/Domain: Force, Motion and Energy
Topic / Title 1.Electricity-Fuse
Time Allotment 60 mins
Learning Competencies/Objectives: explain the function of fuse, circuit breaker, earthing, and double
insulation in the home in the home
S8FE-II-33
At the end of the cycle, the students should be able to:
1. define what is fuse;
2. explain the function of fuse in the home; and
3. show why fuses are important safeguards against electrical fires.
ELICIT (5mins.) MATERIALS
Review previous lesson about electric circuit, PPT
ENGAGE (10mins.)
At the start of the session, the teacher will show the teacher show a video Video Clip
clip about a burning establishment. Picture
Let the students reflect after watching the video.
Let the student interpret the graph.
-
EXPLORE (15mins.)
Designing the Activity: Materials needed per
Divide the class into 5 groups. Using the materials that they prepared, let group:
them perform the activity below:
Read the instructions reflected on your LAS. Balloon , Alumium
Using the given materials, follow the set up procedure. Foil, Battery, Aligator
Clip, Bulb, and Light
Refer to Learners Activity Sheet. Receptacle
EXPLAIN (10 mins.)LANGUAGE
Group Presentation: Manila Paper
Each group will present their data to the class. Markers
Let the four groups compare and analyze their results.
Ask students to generate a conclusion from their result.
Guide Question:
1. Why fuse is important in a circuit?
1
2. What happens to the alligator clips when short circuit is produced?
3. What does the balloon assembly represents in the activity?
4. What causes the balloon to melt and pop up?
5. What happens to the metal strips as the balloon burst?
6. What is the function of fuse in a circuit?
7.What is an indication that your circuit is complete?
ELABORATE (10mins.)
Present the PowerPoint on the Fuse Key Concept PowerPoint
Summarize the concept through discussion. Presentation
Give emphasis on the following concept:
Fuse is important because it protects the appliances from being
damaged (due to too much current or flowing electricity), produced
by short circuit, which causes over heating that can blow up the
appliance.
Fuse breaks circuit connection to avoid overheating and fire.
Fuse and circuit breaker both serve to protect an overload electrical
circuit by interrupting the flow of electricity.
EVALUATE (5mins.)
Multiple choices. Select the best answer.
1. Which of the followingdevices that can protect an overload electrical
circuit?
a. battery b. bulb c. connecting wire d. fuse
2. What will happen to the bulb, if there is a short circuit?
a. the bulb will still light up
b. the bulb will burst
c. the bulb will not light up
d. none of the above
3. Which of the following are the main characteristics of a fuse element?
a. Low melting point
b. High conductivity
c. Least deterioration due to oxidation
d. All of the above
4. Using a high current fuse in a low current appliance is very
a. safe
b. dangerous
c. necessary
d. complicated
5. Which of the following is NOT one of the purposes of a fuse or circuit
breaker?
a. To protect appliances against power surges
b. To prevent metal cases from becoming electrified
c. To prevent electrocution
d. To allow you to reduce the power going to an appliance
EXTEND (5mins.)VALUES
Research on the different type of fuses. Pen and paper
