CODE OF ETHICS AND PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS

Adoption of a Code of Ethical and Professional Standards for the Practice of the
Geodetic Engineering Profession.
WHEREAS, one of the powers and duties of the Board of Geodetic Engineering
provided in Section 8 (i) of RA 8560 known as the Philippine Geodetic
Engineering Act of 1998 is “[T]o prescrive and/or adopt a Code of Ethical and
Professional Standards for the Practice of Geodetic Enginnering profession;
WHEREAS, upon request of the Board of Geodetic Engineering, the GEP Board
of Governors drafted a Code of Ethical and Professional Standards
 The board did not create the code
 Board of past presidents
 Pass to board of GEP
 Protect clients and practitioners
 Infuses principles that will maintain professional standards for the practice
of the profession
 ADOPTED -
 Law must be published in the Official Gazette and takes effect 15 days after

CODE OF ETHICS AND PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS


>In all HUMILITY, always recognize the CREATOR as the source of the light
that illuminates his professional path and the force that leads to the attainment of
his objective;
>Always be possessed with the highest standards of INTEGRITY, HONESTY,
and COMPETENCE in rendering professional service to his client.
>It would be considered unethical for him to:
 Act for his client or employer in professional manners than as a faithful
agent or trustee;
 Charge his client or employer any renumeration other than his stated
professional charges for services rendered or to be rendered in accordance
with their contract of services;
 Take advantage for a fee of his authority to practice as geodetic engineer or
junior geodetic engineer in the execution of geodetic engineering work not
done by him personally or executed his direct supervision;
 Take advantage of the ignorance, credibility, or confidence of clients or
employers and other persons with whom he deals; and
 Act in any manner or engage in any practice which will be tend to discredit
the honor and dignity of the geodetic engineering profession.
>Always be FAIR in his dealing with his colleagues in the profession and other
profession
>cause injury maliciously, directly or indirectly to the good name, the professional
reputation, prospect or business of another geodetic engineer or junior geodetic
engineer; (wag manira ng ibang GE)
>Attempt to supplant another geodetic engineer or junior GE after definite steps
have already been taken towards the latter’s employment; (wag mang-agaw
kontrata)
>Underbid another GE or Jr. GE by reducing his usual rate after knowing the rate
offered by the other GE or Jr. GE;
>Advertise in Self-Laudatory Language or in other manner derogatory to the
dignity of the profession;
>Hire the employee or employees of a fellow GE or Jr. GE without the prior
knowledge or consent of the latter;
>Review the work of anther GE or JR GE for the same client except with the
knowledge and consent of said GE or JR GE or unless the contract of the said GE
has been finished
>Criticize publicly a GE or JR GE in connection with a job he has done;
>To use the advantages of being a salaried employee to compete unfairly with the
GE or JR GE in private practice.
