3 Upvc Method of Statement ABOVE GRD UPVC
SECTION A
1.0 GENERAL
1.1 The use of UPVC pipes and fittings for soil and waste and vent installation shall
conform to design requirement of the contract specification.
1.2 The application of UPVC pipes and fittings for this particular project in general is
as follows:
a) Soil, waste and vent branch piping from all sanitary fittings, floor traps to main
soil and vent stacks.
c) All hotel room toilets, public toilets, pantry and ect water discharge branches
and vertical main stacks.
1.3 Site supervisor shall be responsible to carry out investigation of site condition and
ascertain the pipe route and quantities of pipe lengths and type of fittings required
for the installation.
1.4 All UPVC pipe and fittings shall conform to British Standard as tabulated below:
75 4514

2.0 INSTALLATION OF UPVC PIPING
EXPOSED PIPING
2.1 Check the approved construction drawing and prepare the piping, fittings and
relevant material to be used for a particular pipe work installation.
2.2 Confirm all sanitary wares roughing-in measurement and exact location of floor
traps by referring to selected wares model specification and toilet detail drawings.
Check previously reserved pipe sleeves cast in floor slab during floor slab
concreting is in correct position and in good condition. If the pipe sleeves if
damaged or out of alignment, the original pipe sleeves shall be hack-off, re-install
with the new one and grout back floor slab.
2.3 Clean all pipe sleeves and pull or plump line along projected pipe route and level.
This routing will be set as guideline to ensure correct alignment and gradient of the
UPVC piping.
2.4 Mark out marking at RC soffit or wall for bracket positioning. Bracket spacing
shall be in accordance to technical specification.
2.5 Drill holes, install drop in anchor and galvanized threaded rod hanger to height of
line pulled previously. Fix up required pipe hanger (Type ‘A’ ring bracket) to rod.
Type A ring bracket size shall suit pipe diameter. Check to ensure correct bracket
spacing. (Please refer to sketch on type ’A’ ring bracket attached for detail).
2.6 Measure and cut pipes to be installed to desired length. After cutting UPVC pipe,
remove cut edges of any burrs.
2.7 Prepare pipe end for solvent cement joint to pipe fittings or socket. Joint shall be
free from any dirt or grease by applying priming fluid to the pipe end and joint.
Apply solvent cement to both end of pipe and fittings, immediately joint up pipe
joint by push in with a slight twist to ensure even spread of solvent.
2.10 Set pipe into correct position to pipe bracket, fasten bracket to correct
level/position and completed pipe shall not be unduly strained.
2.12 Check the approved construction and shop drawing to prepare the piping, fittings
and relevant material to be used for a particular pipe work installation.
2.13 Mark out pipe routing on wall where the pipes are intended to be concealed.
2.14 Chisel a trench/groove at wall according to marking and to the depth that can
accommodate UPVC conceals piping.
2.15 Take measurement at wall trench for fabrication of pipe to desired length and
connect pipe and fittings by PVC solvent cement.
2.16 Place the fabricated pipes into groove, join up all connecting joint and set pipe to
correct position.
2.17 Visually check completed concealed piping for proper alignment, gradient and
installed at right angle.
2.18 Patch up wall grove with cement mortar to hold concealed piping in permanent
position.
2.19 Check the embedded pipe depth by placing a piece of wood against the wall to
ensure pipes can be covered by wall plastering.
2.20 Make good and level up any uneven cement mortar patching at wall and let
completed conceal pipes to cure.
3.1 All material for hanger and pipe bracket shall be hot dipped galvanized steel type.
3.2 The following table forms the basic of upvc pipe hangers/bracket.
1) Check the whole UPVC main stack and branch piping which need to be tested are
fully completed and ensure all tee off / branches are properly connected.
2) Check and tighten all access cleaning eyes and floor trap bottom covers to water
tight.
3) Ensure the lowest end of the test pipeline is accessible where the test water can be
properly discharged without causing any flooding prior to commencing the test
procedure.
4) Feed a temporary water hose and fill in water into top point of soil stack. Check
whether water flow is discharging properly at the lowest end of soil stack. (Refer
to sketch attached for easy reference).
5) With water running simultaneously, check the whole pipe line for any visible
leakage.
