What is Gender and Society to me?

Gender and sex has a lot to talk about as it is diverse and a complex topic. It is
usually deeply personal where some people are uncomfortable to talk about it. There
are a lot of issues in the society that argues over it and even being discussed by the
church. The society was the one who has a big role on the development in our identities
which affects our own thinking, what we believe, dress, and how we act, defining who
we are and what we see ourselves.
Human rights, gender equality, women empowerment, LGBTQ+, and laws
against violence, discrimination, and sexual harassment deepen my understanding on
how we take action about issues on gender in our society. Human rights advocates
guaranteeing life, liberty, equality, and security, protects people against any abuse, and
achieve equality and fairness without any regards to race, language, religion, sex,
gender or other status. The same as gender equality which aims to eliminate
discrimination between women and men roles in the society which people were used to
know that men are more powerful than women, saying women were weak and should
just stay at their houses, deprived from their own rights, therefore resulted to women
empowerment. LGBTQ+ stands for all the communities of different genders and
sexuality defining their own identity so that they will be identified as an individual in the
society. The laws against violence, discrimination, and sexual harassment among
different genders were already been implemented but still not sure if justice always
prevails yet there are still victims of abuse, prejudice, rape, and other crimes that
violates these kind of laws towards humanity. This simply explains how was gender and
sexuality being described through different types of approaches and resolved by giving
an important attention towards different individuals in our society.
Gender and society helped me to understand how related the development of
gender and sexuality in the society. It taught me how to appreciate and accept myself
and other people with their own identity. For me, this course was helpful to give me an
overall insight about what is happening within individuals that was having a difficulty in
accepting their selves and trying to fit in in this judgmental society. It is an eye-opener
and very educational as it was a common topic, but least understood and recognized by
a lot of people.

My View about LGBTQ+

LGBTQ+ stands for all the communities of different gender and sexual
orientations defining their own identity so that they will be identified as an individual in
the society. They are group of people that wanted to encourage other gender and
sexuality to fight for their rights and be free for being who they are.
It was been first described as sexual revolution when a “thought” which insisted
that those who identified as non-straight should have their own term. Gay and lesbian
were the two gendered terms that became the norm (Pinknews.com). Yet homosexual
or those people who is attracted to the same sex was also been defined but the
people’s gender and sexual orientations are always changing and evolving, that’s why
LGBTQ+ existed. With this acronym, it could give other people a chance to still find their
true selves and identify what and who they really are. It serves as a hope for those
people that feel so much different among others that can interact with their own identity
to other identities confidently. These groups of initials were not just a “term” for what we
call lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer, but also a symbol that everyone
deserves to show, recognize, and know their own selves. It also establishes a place
where they know they belong in a category that was accepted by many and also
supported by others to let them continue to freely expose their selves in the society.
There is nothing wrong on the LGBTQ+ that others argue and disagreeing with, we
should instead protect them and respect what they wanted to be, we don’t have the right
to stop them for just they wanted to be accepted and loved with who they was.
Generally, we are the ones who know more about ourselves, and interpretations
and feelings about our own gender. It is just difficult when you feel like being different,
but there is nothing wrong to feel that way, we are unique in our own ways. I realized
that this taught me to understand more on other kinds or terms for gender, sex, and
sexuality and respect them with who they are even if they are in the “more” category of
female and male. We should also protect each other and fight for our rights as we are
privilege and free. Everyone should be reminded that we are all worthy, simply, because
we exists.
