Parallel Processing in Oracle 11g Standard Edition

The document describes the Parallel Query feature available in the Standard Edition of Oracle Database. This feature allows certain operations, like full table scans or sorts, to be performed in parallel by multiple query server processes. It can provide performance improvements for queries on very large datasets by taking advantage of a multi-node clustered environment. Both Parallel Query (PQ) and Parallel Active Grid Link (PAGL) can split operations across multiple CPUs and nodes in a cluster for further performance gains. One needs to carefully balance the number of operations executing in parallel with the number of CPUs and nodes in the cluster.
