Topic 1: Natural and Man-Made Materials

This document discusses natural and man-made materials. It provides examples of materials that are natural like paper, grass, and leaves derived from trees and plants. Manufactured materials like aluminum wrappers and nylon nets are derived from natural resources like aluminum foil and polymers. The document also lists natural and manufactured materials used to make common objects like houses, cars, and computers. It emphasizes that while manufactured materials improve quality of life, their production can cause pollution, so people should use natural materials wisely and avoid harming the environment.

and which are manufactured. Describe how the manufactured materials are
derived from natural resources.

materials that are needed to make each object. Suggest other possible materials
that could be used, and state whether these items are natural or manufactured
materials.

REFLECTION OF PCK 1
I have learnt that all of the things around us are produced by natural and
manufactured materials. Natural materials are materials which are produced by
natural resources such as sand, wool, silk worm, cotton and rubber.
Manufactured materials are materials that are created and design by using the
presence natural materials in order to improve our quality of things. Some of the
manufactured material usage will cause pollution to the environment, such as the
acid rain. As a human in this world, I realized it is one of my responsibilities to
take care of our world by using the natural material wisely and avoid the activity
that will give harmful to our world.

This topic is related to the combinations of several topics of the primary

science curriculum. There is the topic of investigating materials (Knowing the
importance of reuse, reduce and recycle of materials) in standard 4 syllabuses.
This topic explained about the natural and man-made materials.

In my teaching and learning, I will explain first to them about the concept
of natural and manufactured material to make them understand. Then, I will bring
some of natural and manufactured materials at the class and I will ask my
students to separate the materials based on their type. This activity is very good
because they will use their critical and creative thinking besides they can
increase their prior knowledge with the new information. Then, I also can ask
them to bring their own things from home and discuss with the class about the
materials of their belongings.

The teacher must explain to their students about the concept of both
materials. After that, teacher should include the moral values in the teaching and
learning process such as the importance of manufactured materials. Teacher
also have to act as a facilitator and guidance to make sure the things that they
bring to the class are safe to use because the safeties of the students is also one
of the teacher’s responsibility. Teacher also has to make sure the all the students
involve actively.
