Activity 2: SDG Goal and NHURA Agenda

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals,
were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to
action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and
prosperity by 2030. The 17 SDGs are integrated that is, they recognize that action in
one area will affect outcomes in others, and that development must balance social,
economic and environmental sustainability. The SDG goal that I want to attain for my
research is the number six which is decent work and economic growth . According to
World Population Review, Philippines is a Third World country and currently
a developing country. The GDP per capita is low and the infant mortality rate is high. I
want my research to have a contribution to the economic growth of the Philippines.
Since our country is a developing country, it need more studies and technology for the
economy to grow. The ideal nurse to patient ratio, according to the Philippines
Department of Health, is 1:12, but this is hardly true in many hospitals. In Jose Reyes
Memorial Medical Center, the nurse to patient ratio in the male surgical ward is 2:59.
The ratio is 2:64 in the women surgical ward, as well as the stroke unit. The imbalance
of ratio between nurses and patients affect both party. The nurse can’t provide care
necessary for the patient and also the mortality rate increases. Since we are lacking on
staff in the Philippines, my goal is to make a study that may help Registered Nurse on
the work and provide them knowledge that can help their job to be easier and also
efficient.

The National Unified Health Research Agenda or the NUHRA, a major document
Produced by the Research Agenda Committee (RAC) of the Philippine National Health
Research System (PNHRS), serves as the country’s template for health research and
development efforts. The very first NUHRA specified the health research areas and
topics that need to be addressed for 2006-2010. It was launched in 2006 and then
updated in 2008. The NUHRA was a product of a series of regional and national
consultations with stakeholders. The purpose of NHURA is to serve as a guide where
policy makers, funding and donor agencies and researchers from public and private
sectors should invest to ensure the health and productivity of the country’s citizenry.
The mainly concern of it is the health of the citizen of the country. I would like to focus
my study to the health care system. As a student nurse, the situation on the hospitals
compare to the ideal from the books such as procedures and protocol of the hospital is
entirely different. Understaffing, insufficient equipment, limited amount of supplies, and
lack of knowledge of the personnel in the hospital. I would like my research To produce
evidence towards efficient, quality, safe, and affordable healthcare.
