1ST Semester: A.Y. 2021- 2022

MODULE 1
LESSON 1: Introduction to Art and Humanities

Let’s Get Started!

In the first column of the table below, list down your most striking encounters with arts. On the
second column, explain why you think each encounter is an experience with art?

MY ENCOUNTER WITH ARTS WHY?

- An art that has something that interests you
in person on one of a million ways and leaves
a great impression. This may be a work of art
- Paintings that challenges you and then makes you
think about it for days, or one that seduces
you and leaves you with pleasant feelings for
days.
- Sculptures are designed to be viewed in the
- Sculptures round, allowing you to shift your perspective
as you interact with them.
- Emotion is what helps a person connect
with a photograph, or any work of art, if that
emotion is present in the person. Happiness
- Photographs and peace, grief and sorrow are some of the
simpler emotions to deal with because they
are universally felt by everyone on the earth
at some point.
What is an art to you? Is it important?
- Concepts & Techniques is an art appreciation course created for individuals without any
artistic background. This course introduces you to various art movements, cultural
influences, artistic genres, artists, and their artwork. Art is important because creativity
is the foundation of a child's education. It helps to develop motor skills, eye-hand
coordination and has a large impact on their social and emotional growth. It also
enhances their cognitive development which can have a positive effect on math skills
and other related subjects.

 How is Art and Nature related?

- I choose this topic to make a reflection because Art is basically creation by human
beings though there are natural creations that are no less than best pieces of visual art.
Art is the imagination in the mind of the artist that he transforms into a tangible form
through his skills and also art can mimic nature, by seeking to visually replicate objects
as they actually appear in real life. Nature can be a simple add on to a painting to convey
a sense of depth, or perspective. A realistic depiction of a mountain for example can
symbolize not only the sublime, but also curiosity for the unknown. Nature has been an
inspiration for the artist since humanity began. Our relation to the sublime gifts and the
horrors of nature have prompted humans to creative action. Perhaps the earliest cave
paintings were an effort to control the hunting of the animals depicted or they were
motivated to just celebrate the joy these animals brought to early humans? I can only
guess. Most art these days is highlighting something we may take for granted or not
consider important. The artists highlight these things including natural phenomena
because these things elicit a strong desire to do something about them. Typically, the
response in the arts, as distinct from the sciences and philosophy or mathematics etc. is
to explore the artist’s enthusiasm by directly manipulating materials, sounds (music)
words in poetry and novels, light from images or even the artist’s body as in dance. We
often regard ourselves as distinct from nature but humans exist within nature and art is
the result of the interaction of ourselves within what we are in (Nature) and the
materials and motivation nature provides. Some, however, confuse the beauty in nature
and call it art, I suspect this is wrong because, although humans are in nature in
producing our art, art is essentially a human activity for other humans to gain insight
into the minds, ideas and feelings of other humans like themselves. Art is a
communication between, initially the artist and their obsession with some aspect of
their existence, through material, and eventually may be communicated to other
humans. (Not nature or elephants) Humans seek out art because of this interaction
between minds, which they may empathize with, and usually humans find this
pleasurable. Humans also find beauty and awe in nature, but this is not art but can be
used in art.

Catchy and Creative Art-Slogans

Art-Slogans are powerful marketing tools that can motivate your clients to support your
brand. It is an advertising tag-line or phrase that advertisers create to express the importance
and benefits of their product visually.

Create a creative slogan for an advertisement:

1. BDO – “We Find Way”

2. GLOBE – “Abot Mo Ang Mundo”
3. LBC – “Hari Ng Padala”

LESSON 2: SUBJECT AND CONTENT, ARTIST AND ARTISAN

Observe the pictures below. What are the possible themes/topics that the art work illustrates?
Discuss your answer briefly on the given space underneath.

- This illustration shows an identify, for my interpretation it shows the mother is grieving
for her child, the face of the mother clearly shows its love at the same time longing for
her child. The choices of the colors also exhibit the joy and the sadness of the mother.

What is the difference between Natural and Artificial?

- The difference between Natural and Artificial - a natural ecosystem has a diverse amount of
species and plants, whereas artificial ecosystems are limited. Natural ecosystems are self-
sustaining and result from spontaneous natural reaction, while artificial ecosystems require the
assistance of humans but if without humans, this ecosystem could not sustain itself .
By looking at the photographs below, whom among these faces do you recognize? Would you
consider that person to be an Artist or an Artisan? Write your answer on the given space.

Artists Artisans
1. Ronald Allan K. Poe – Artists 1. Fernando Amorsolo
2. Francisca Reyes Aquino – Artists
3. Abdulmari Imao – Artists
4. Andrea Veneracion

Create a slogan that helps promote the cultural value of artisans in our country. Use a short
sized bond paper for this activity.
a. Giving Meaning
Critics are known to be experts in criticizing and interpreting Artworks. They are people
who professionally express a reasoned opinion on any matter especially involving a
judgment of an artworks’ value, truth, righteousness, beauty or technique.

Examine carefully the Artwork below. Write down ideas or interpretations that you can
make. Then use these ideas or interpretations in writing a poem, song, or story.

Someone will say

Some may say

c. Look for an artisan that can be found in your locality. Take a picture on what particular
product the artist is selling/creating. Writing a ten-sentences essay about the product
the artisan is selling or creating on how this product help him as an individual.

- He is the artisan in our locality. He lives in Punta Cabahug Street Brgy, Zone 6 and his
name Gerald Poster. This product of the artisan is both creating and selling. He does it
for his education and for his family. He makes his own artwork to be able to sell it to
people who want to buy what he made. In our locality Gerald Poster create their own
product or artwork because he has the talent to make poster. If he has already made
artwork, then he will sell it. As in individual it contributes to his education in making and
selling his product as an artisan. He can also support his family in making and selling his
product. Here we can see how good he is at making his product.

LESSON 3: ELEMENTS AND PRINCIPLE OF ART

Examine the pictures below. Identify and describe the principles and elements present on each
artwork. Write your answer on the spaces allocated.

This artist used perspective view in this kind
of place. Perspective is when the artist uses a
In The Second Artwork vanishing point on the horizon and then
creates a sense of deep space by showing
objects getting progressively smaller as they
get closer to the vanishing point.
The principle used by the artist is
“Proportion.” It refers to the dimensions of a
composition and relationships between
In The Third Artwork height, width and depth. How proportion is
used will affect how realistic or stylized
something seems. Proportion also describes
how the sizes of different parts of a piece of
art design relate to each relate.

What Element of art do you think is very crucial each artwork should have? Why do you think
so?
Line: A very important Element of Art is “Line.” Imagine a work of art with no use of lines.
Whether it is a drawing, painting, or sculpture, lines are important. They help form shapes, and
also can communicate an idea or feeling.

Imagination is one of the sources of an artist’s masterpiece. It represents the artist’s desires
and expresses their feelings.
Create your own masterpiece by using any kind of medium. Observe and identify the particular
principle of design found in your work.
