Department Objectives

The Department of Social Science and


Philosophy aims to:
1. To produce socially-oriented, culture sensitive,
and dynamic professionals through active
involvement in community extension;
2. To provide instruction that promotes lasting
social intervention and life-long education;
3. To enhance research involvement and open a
venue for maximum dissemination of outputs
that promote peace and development of the tri-
people in Mindanao; and
4. To provide students and faculty members
relevant learning materials and generate income
through sustainable academic-related projects.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course will introduce to the students concepts and theories vital in the
understanding of society and culture. Corollary to this is an examination of
issues and concerns affecting the society. An explanation on why people from
different groups or societies have different cultures and behave differently will
be made on those that are ours (as Filipinos) in order for us to choose those
that are worth perpetuating.

COURSE OUTCOMES
Upon passing this course, the students must be able to:
1. Determine sociological and anthropological concepts and approaches
in understanding society and culture.
2. Examine social and cultural issues faced by the society and explain the
factors that contribute to such issues and problems.
3. Apply the sociological and anthropological theories and concepts in
explaining societal issues by developing a basic research output
related to the topic.
