Measuring The Fixture Delay: Before You Begin

The document describes the process for measuring fixture delay in two parts. First, the path delay is measured without the device under test (DUT) board installed. Second, the path delay is measured with the DUT board installed. The fixture delay measurement tool guides the user through disconnecting and reconnecting the DUT board at the appropriate steps to collect the necessary measurement data.

Measuring the fixture delay

The fixture delay measurement is accomplished in two parts. The first part measures the path
delay without the DUT board installed; the second part measures the path delay with the DUT
board installed.

Before you begin

Make sure that you work online to measure the fixture delay.

Procedure
1. Start the Fixture Delay Tool:
l On the menu, select 93000 > System > Fixture Delay.
l In the Test Program Explorer, right-click Channel Attributes, and on the context
menu select Open (FixtureDelay).

The Fixture Delay Tool window opens:

2. In the Fixture Delay Tool window, choose Execute > Measure or Execute > Measure
with Dual Transmission Lines. Follow the instructions to start the measuring process.
If you are measuring TDR into open, you must make sure that there are:
l No terminations
l No capacitive loads (on I/O channels)
l No pull-ups or pull-downs
A window appears that shows the number of channels selected for measurement:

If any of the channels are outside of the current view, the number of such channels is
displayed:

3. If you want to continue with these selections, click OK.

If you want to change the channel selection before you start the fixture delay
measurement, click Cancel. This terminates this procedure; you need to start again with
step 1 after making the desired changes.
You are informed that the timing and level will be reset to values required for the fixture
delay measurement.
4. Click OK to continue.
The timing and level will be reset again to the values specified for the current device after
the measurement is complete. If these settings have not been saved, click Cancel and
save the timing and level settings before you start the fixture delay measurement.
A warning window appears that instructs you to disconnect the DUT board before making
measurements:

5. Disconnect the DUT board and click OK.

A window showing test progress is displayed. You can stop the measurement by clicking
Interrupt. If you click Interrupt, you are warned that not all channels have been
measured:

6. Click Cancel if you want the measurement to proceed without interruption. Click OK if
you want to interrupt the measurement.
If you click OK, an alert is displayed:

7. Click OK.
After the measurement is complete, a window appears that prompts you to reconnect the
DUT board without a DUT:

8. Click OK.
If you are running the dual transmission line measurement, you are prompted to
reconnect the DUT board with a short device:

The short device is a pseudo-device that connects all signal pins to ground.
9. Connect the device, then click OK.
10. When the measurement is complete, save the file of measured fixture delay data. (See
Using the File menu for details.) After the fixture delay has been measured, the timing
will be updated with the next timing-change sequence, that is, when setting or enabling a
new timing.

Result
After the measurement is complete the screen shown below appears. The Fixture Delay column
contains the signal delay values.

What to do next
Save the data, see Using the File menu.
By default the file is stored in the following directory: /var/opt/hp93000/soc/ch_attributes.
However, if you use a number of DUT boards, you may find it useful to save the file in a
directory that will help you to re-associate it with the particular DUT board.
