Learning Activity Task 5
Learning Activity Task 5
1. What strategies can be utilized to promote appreciation of cultural diversity in different classes?
I think it starts - first and foremost - by teaching the children about respect, not only to
their peers and older people, nut to every individual, different or not, and the importance of it.
Then, it is about showing them, that people are different from their, race, religion, looks,
identity, culture, opinions, and so much more, and that despite these differences, there should
be no prejudice and bias. They should be taught to be culturally aware to avoid any
misunderstandings and fights.
2. What curriculum models can be developed and implemented in a multi-cultural country like
Philippines?
In my opinion, the current curriculum of the country is the best suited for the
Philippines at the moment. It was a great change from the old curriculum and added the senior
high school that gave opportunities and options to students on what path they want to take in
the future. As a multi-cultural country, it is also a good step for different cultures and the
foreigners that come study in the country as we are now using the same curriculum and going
global. There are also subjects that teach other cultures to make the students aware of different
ways of life to rise to the standard of global education.
3. What are your thoughts about the practice in the Philippines of adapting curriculum models and
programs from other countries especially the US?
If the Philippines are adapting from the US, I think that it could be the best option since
it is usually seen as the standard for education of other Asian countries. As we have been
colonized before, it still influences us up to this day to view them as the superior country and
adapt from them. However, while their models and programs are being adapted, it is still up to
the skills and competencies of our own teachers on how they teach their students. It is still for
the teacher’s execution on how their teaching will be effective regardless of what theory or
approach from the US model the curriculum was adapted. I think we should still give credit to
those teachers who have a style of their own in teaching effectively and focus on that while
improving continuously despite it being from other countries.
4. Some people believe that grades do not necessarily reflect the capacity and ability of a student.
What is your idea on this?
Grade is just a number. While this can be true for others, grades are also the result of
hard work the student put in their performance and academics. Saying that grades do not
necessarily reflect the capacity and capability of a student is like undermining the hard work
those students put in to have high grades. I think it is a case-to-case basis. One student may
have a low grade because they are working students but still did their best, and another may
simply be lazy and did not put any effort, and another student may have excelled because they
were smart and hardworking. Yes, grades do not necessarily reflect the capacity and ability of a
student, but this should not be said as an excuse to not put in effort because “grade is just a
number”.
5. How can teachers strengthen their linkages and partnerships with the government organizations
and private institutions?
