Module 2 Learner -centered psychological principles

This module presents an understanding of what principles are, and their significance in learner
centered teaching. We will present our takeaways through digital storytelling so without further
ado, come and join us as we present our idea along the way.

Let me show to you the members of the CHANGE agents’

group

Here is the activity to be done.

What particular learner-centered principle can be appropriate
in the new normal situation particularly in facilitating a certain
topic in your field of specialization?

As we embark on the new normal setting, educational system

has also been put into new situation of adjustment. However,
upon navigating through the modules where the learner-
centered psychological principles are presented we selected
some principles that best fit in the new normal set up of
learning.

Under the cognitive and metacognitive factor is the nature of

the learning process.

It is very important to make students still guided across their

learning in the midst of the pandemic. This nature of their
learning fits learners as they intended to become self-directed
and independent learners in some cases.

Indeed, there must be a strong collaboration between parents,

teachers and curriculars. Even at home, children are
encouraged to utilize intentional processes to construct
meaning from knowledge, experiences, and their own views
and beliefs.

Successful learners are engaged, goal-oriented, self-regulatory,

and take personal responsibility for their own education.

The next is the construction of knowledge

Pupils have already linked between their prior knowledge
before pandemic and their new knowledge. Knowledge must be
strengthened in meaningful ways. For example, in using printed
teacher-made learning materials, teachers must inculcate
flexibility in making modules where learning are not
compromised and still enjoys learning.

It is also important to apply the Strategic thinking both to

teachers and students.
Strategic thinking should be applied both by teachers, pupils
and parents. In the field of Elementary learners, it is a great
challenge on how they can cope with the new learning system
in which learners really stayed focus when they are in school
than being at home in the context of learning.
In this way, parents must be a guiding principle in facilitating
their child/ children and teachers are also responsible in
creating self- directed materials that will enhance students in
developing their cognitive skills, critical thinking and problem-
solving skills.

Under motivational and emotional factor, we need

Motivational and emotional influences on learning
Motivation has an impact on what and how much is learned.
Individuals' emotional states, beliefs, interests and aspirations,
and cognitive patterns all influence motivation to learn. We
really need to embed motivation both mentally and emotional
our learners although it is a great challenge but we should not
let learners lost their interest to learn.

Motivation to study is aided by the learner's inventiveness,

higher-order thinking, and innate curiosity. Intrinsic motivation
is sparked by tasks that are both unique and challenging,
relevant to personal interests, and allow for personal choice
and control. Curiosity, flexible and insightful thinking, and
originality are all important signs of a learner's intrinsic drive to
learn, which is mostly a result of addressing basic demands for
competence and personal control.

Under developmental and social factors, social influences on

learning are also crucial in children’s growth and learning.
Social interactions, interpersonal relationships, and
communication with others all have an impact on learning.
However, in our current circumstances it is a challenge on how
we can make social interaction since face to face are strictly
prohibited. In this, as a social circle in the family they can spend
ample time to interact with their children, make some bonding
such as playing, tutoring their child/ children, read books
together and watch movies so that they will be able to build
confidence, learn to interact with people and at the same still
learning.

To give you the summary of this.

Let us always remember that;

All the presented principles are important as;
It helps learners to boost their self-esteem towards learning.
It allows them to think outside the box and be creative.
It helps them to develop their HOTS.
It can easily adapt to a new situation
It encourages them to become more socially active.
It helps them to become globally competent in the future.
It captures the holistic growth of the learners.
It can help them to become fully equipped in the next stage of
their learning.

Elementary teachers let us build our future to become critical

thinker, attentive, self-directed, socially active and creative.

Thank for watching.
