Someland, over a 40-year period from 1960 to 2000. Overall, what stands out from the
graph is that the number of male smokers dropped significantly while the number of
female smokers increased during the period in question. Another remarkable point is that
the rate of smoking in men was always at a higher level than the female figures.
Looking at the details, as regards men, in 1960, 600 men in every 1,000 smoked. This
number decreased gradually to 500 in 1975 and continued to decrease but more steeply to
250 in 2000. By contrast, the rate of smoking in women in 1960 was very low at only 80
in every 1,000. In 1970, the figure increased considerablely to 170, and increased again
but more steeply to 320 in 1975. The rate of female smokers then remained stable at 320
until 1980, at which point the figures began to decline and dropped to 200 in the final
year of the period.

The graph shows the amount of wheat which was exported by Australia, Canada and
Europian Union, over a 5-year period between 1985 and 1990. Overall, what stands out
from the graph is that the European Union’s wheat export increased over the period while
Australia experienced a downward trend in its wheat trading. Although wheat exports of
the three areas fluctuated, Canada had the most noticeable trading throughout the period
in question.
As regards European Union, this area exported approximately 17.5 million tonnes of
wheat in 1985 and the export fell to under 15 million tonnes in 1986. After that, it
increased to 15 million tonnes in the subsequent year and remained steady in 1988. EU’s
wheat export surged in the next two years and in 1990 their wheat export was more than
20 million tonnes.
On the other hand, Australia’s wheat export in 1985 was the lowest, 15 million tonnes,
among the given three regions. In the following year, the figure improved to around 16
million tonnes. Then, it continuously declined in the subsequent years and hit a trough at
about 12 million tonnes in 1990.
Regarding Canada, its wheat export was the highest of the three regions in 1985 with
nearly 20 million tonnes. In 1986, the figure decreased to about 17 million tonnes before
it significantly increased to exactly 25 million tonnes in 1988. However, in 1989, it
dropped rapidly to below 15 million tonnes and rose back to nearly 20 million tones in
the last year of the period.
